According to new data, it appears that Valve likely made around $1 billion from digital means Counter Strike 2 (previously Worldwide offensive) Suitcases and keys in 2023. Yes, that’s billions with a “B”.
In Valve’s hugely popular free-to-play tactical FPS Counter Strike 2Players can obtain Cases by playing and earning them through leveling up, or purchase Cases from the Steam Community Market. These suitcases come in different variants and can contain extremely rare and valuable cosmetic items
As discovered by DexertoThird Party Website CS2 Case Tracker recently published it Annual review 2023 for cases. And the biggest number is the estimated $980,000,000 that Valve made from players purchasing keys to open cases. Since keys are just digital items that open cases, it’s not like Valve costs all that much to produce or maintain, so the company probably booked almost the entirety of that staggering sum as profit.
But wait, that massive $980 million figure only represents how much money Valve likely made from selling keys. This does not take into account the 15 percent cut they receive every Case sold on the Community market. Taking that into account, it’s very likely that Valve made well over $1 billion from cases and keys in 2023 alone.
This is probably one of the reasons why Valve is in no hurry to develop new video games. That’s not really necessary. Instead, they can sit back and let Steam and Counterattack finance all of their virtual reality experiments and other hardware projects. Honestly, it’s a miracle we’ve ever experienced Half-Life: Alyx.
One final statistic for the road: Loud CS2 Case TrackerAccording to the data, Wednesday was the most popular day for cases to open. Why? I don’t know. But here we go. With this strange little thing you can probably win a cash bet now.
