Vampire: The masqueradeThe rule set of the 5th edition of Roll20 will appear on June 16 on the virtual tabletop platform of Roll20. The announcement was made on Thursday in a press release from developer and publisher Renegade Game Studios, franchise owners Paradox Interactive and Roll20.
The start of vampireThe 2018 5th Edition rule set was plagued by a number of unenforced errors by White Wolf’s developers, including allegations of homophobia and the inclusion of the ideology of white supremacy in game materials. After purchasing the studio from CCP Games in 2015, Paradox Interactive largely left the team to its own devices to develop the latest version of the tabletop role-playing game. The end result was a lavishly botched start that culminated in the dissolution of the core team.
“The making and selling of these books would not come under the incarnation of White Wolf that we are building,” wrote Paradox’s vice president Shams Jorjani at the time. Paradox moved production and editorial oversight for the tabletop game to Modiphius Entertainment for a while. In November 2020 these responsibilities were postponed to Breakaway Game Studios.
“We are happy to be able to bring along Vampire: The masquerade making Roll20 such a popular digital platform, ”said Sara Erickson, Renegade’s vice president of sales and marketing. “It is very important to us that players can immerse themselves in the World of Darkness together with their friends from all over the world.”
Since the game was first released, the Core rule book and other products have been redesigned and updated to meet new ethical standards enforced by the Paradox team. The game system, in which players slip into the role of vampires in a modern, hostile world, is in much better shape than it was and is experiencing new interest worldwide.
Roll20 became known in 2020 during the ongoing global pandemic. It provides a unified online toolset for hosting role-playing games online and gives players access to automated tools to manage the on-screen action. The browser-based platform is compatible with a wide variety of devices and also includes hooks for audio and video conferencing.
Roll20 versions of the Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition Basic Rulebook, Camarilla Source book and A bow Source book are currently Available for pre-sale and will officially launch on June 16th.
This isn’t the only vampire game currently in development, nor is it the most derelict game. Vampires: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was originally expected last year, but the game has been postponed (for the second time) until 2021. The game’s lead writer and director were both fired in August 2020. There is also a vampire-themed battle royale game on the way.
