Vince Staples is getting his own Netflix series. The rapper and occasional actor first tweeted about his show on Monday, but it wasn’t until Wednesday that we got our first look at it in the new Netflix trailer and it already looks great. The series is called The Vince Staples Showwill premiere on February 15th.
The trailer begins with Vince arriving home and sitting on the couch to watch TV with his girlfriend. When she asks him about his day, we see brief flashes from the show of Vince arguing with someone in a mascot costume, being recognized in a bank robbery, and having trouble ordering fast food.
The trailer seems more interested in conveying the mood of the series than actual plot details, but it’s still pretty well done. Each scene looks stranger, funnier and more tense than the last. For an unusual series created by a rapper, it would be difficult to avoid comparisons to the series created by Donald Glover Atlantabut strangely the trailer has a similar feel Unpolished gemstones also, where Adam Sandler’s minor New York star took him to some pretty terrible places.
Although Staples is primarily a musician, this isn’t the first time he’s tried to put on a show. He also created a much smaller version of The Vince Staples Show for Facebook in 2019, but that streak was short-lived. Since then, Staples has appeared in series such as… Abbott Elementary School And Unsure.
