Hugh Grant plays a strange and dangerous villain HereticA24’s new horror film that debuted with $11 million last weekend. And at one point in the film he does an impression of it star Wars Character Jar-Jar Binks and folks, it’s the worst impression of the hated alien I’ve ever heard.
Heretica film about two young women who quickly regret entering the home of Grant’s character hit theaters on November 8th and has already become one of them A24’s top-selling imagesMovies like beat I saw the television light up And Love lies bleeding in just a few days. Impressive stuff! What’s not so impressive is a moment in the film where Hugh Grant’s character briefly takes over the role of Jar-Jar Binks.
On November 12th IGN posted a clip from Heretic in which Grant’s character talks about how people will revere Jar-Jar Binks as a religious figure in the future. The clip was later “borrowed” and reposted by DiscussingFilm on Twitter, where it exploded.
Jar-Jar first appeared in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace in 1999 and people hated him. The negative reaction and insults caused Jar-Jar’s actor Ahmed Best to almost kill himself. But he has since recovered, has a great family and has returned there star Wars as a badass Jedi who saved Grogu.
Anyway, I have to imagine that Hugh Grant knows who Jar-Jar Binks is and has at least watched a video of the character speaking. Therefore, I’m assuming the terrible imitation is deliberate and is an example of the character not knowing much about who Jar-Jar is, which could be an indication of how much he can be trusted.
Or maybe Grant did, everyone on set was silent, he took that as a sign of success and moved on, and no one had the heart to say it was bad. Either way, I’d pay money to see Grant spend more star Wars Characters. Give me your best Jabba or Yoda, my buddy.
Heretic is now available in cinemas. Don’t boo the screen when his Jar Jar impersonation happens. OK?
