The offerthe new biographical drama miniseries from author Michael Tolkin (Flight at Dannemora) and director Dexter Fletcher (rocket Man) is finally celebrating its premiere today Outstanding plus. And all three Godfather films are included and available now on the streaming platform.
The 10-episode series, starring Miles Teller as Paramount Pictures producer Albert S. Ruddy, chronicles the making of Francis Ford Coppola’s Italian-American crime drama The Godfather amid a spate of controversy and ongoing backlash, including a clash with the Italian American Civil Rights League.
I’m confident I won’t have to explain what to anyone reading an entertainment site The Godfather is, and needless to say what a monumental impact and influence it had on Hollywood cinema when it was released in 1972. However, what you will be wondering, and one I am very happy to answer, is why the Godfather films, which are frequently touted as some of the greatest American films of all time, were not made available to stream in the first place. As you may already know, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the original film The Godfather, and to celebrate the occasion all three films received limited theatrical releases for Dolby Cinema in AMC theaters in the US on February 25th . The re-release took advantage of the films’ recent 4K broadcast, overseen by writer-director Francis Ford Coppola, who went so far as to re-edit the critically divisive film Part III
The reason The Godfather trilogy was temporarily unavailable to stream to date was not only to coincide with its 50th anniversary theatrical release, but also to coincide with the release of the Godfather 4K Restorations, which went on sale on March 22nd , not to undermine commercially.
