The year is 2058, and the value of the world is being driven by artificial intelligence. Welcome to the new (West)landscaping.
Westworld season 3 Episode 1 takes the first premise of the series, the idea that the "discreet" robots in the theme park are holding onto bad and brutal logs to entertain visitors, and to apply it to Silicon Valley's largest living community. Just as Google wanted to make all information free and accessible, and Facebook was hoping to create a centralized space for communication and information, the Incite organization envisioned a completely optimized world where each person knew exactly what to do, and how to do it. The result is influential enough, or at least enough key in the mysterious new building, that now parked Dolores wants to bring down everything.
The Westworld Season 3's advertising campaign has been draining Incite's power for a while, and episode 1 may just be the tip of the iceberg. Here's what fans are down across the rabbit hole of ARG already know about Incite by going to PROXT, and what we can get from episode 1.
(Vol. Note: this post contains poor spoilers for Westworld season 3, episode 1.)
What is Recovery?
"My dad thinks the biggest problem may not be obvious," Liam Dempsey Jr. (John Gallagher Jr.) accidentally tells a fake Dolores to Westworld prime minister. "If you can arrange a study for every single person, you can make the world a better place."
Using Rehoboam's elaborate masterpiece, invented by the first king of Judah, the leaders of the Incite sect right the citizens of the world. That means controlling everything from their work to when they start down 405. Rehoboam Incite is basically a senior leadership advisor.
In the lead-up to the season 3 premiere, HBO has revealed the merits of CES, bringing in the chair of faux Development, who gave a speech, a TED talk show that played well with existing tech journalists.
HBO has also buried a secret ad to put the company in one of its official locations. The video, featuring co-founder Liam Dempsey Sr., describes the expected sale of your life completely dominated by artificial intelligence.
The Incite website is also full of utopian logic. From the page About:
Are you living your best life?
By the time you retire, you will have to change jobs seven times.
By the time you find love, you will be in seven to eight relationships, and your heart will be broken twice.
Is the world the best place you can be?
Over 3,400 years ago, humanity was at war 92 percent of the time. Wars killed more than 108 million people in this 20th century alone.
By the time we reach 2100, the global temperature will be 10 degrees higher. The ice poles will melt and the rain forests will become desolate.
Desire believes we can pursue the path to a better future for you and our world. Our values are your values. Let's find your way.
Desire is not Delos – because Rehoboam AI could be worse
The tail end of Westworld season 2 saw Dolores and her team bring down a park owned by Delos inside, killing many board members. He also found that Delos had been collecting tourist information so that one day he could meet their people. As a disclaimer on the official website of Delos Destissions it was approved shortly after things went crazy in the park
By entering the Delos Destinations Port of Entry, you acknowledge that Delos, Inc. it controls the rights and remains the sole proprietor, in all jurisdictions: all skin cells, body fluids, releases, transfusions, hair samples, saliva, sweat, blood, and other body functions not listed here. Delos, Inc. reserves the right to use this property in any way, shape, or form as the entity deems fit.
Desire is not Desos. In fact, the company in the middle of Season 3 is likely to be Delos' worst enemy, judging from certain ARG documents in the 2039 Privacy Act. When Incite's pre-season website started live, Delos sent an email to all users saying we would now adhere to the new rules set by the company in concert with Congress. From the FAQ onwards InciteInc.com:
Let's be real. We all know your data is there. But it's your data. Your health. And the person benefiting from this should be: you.
After years of appeals from Incite and other private lawyers, Congress has finally come to terms with Big Data companies. The most recent criminal cases and recently disclosed subpoenas have exposed decades of fraud in Silicon Valley. Now, the days of organizational abuse and political deceit are gone. Going forward, all companies will have to comply with strict consumer privacy laws that will allow you to control your data.
Starting today, your life will be yours again.
Q: What does Incite have to do with it?
A: Congress has partnered with Incite to ensure that the Privacy Act is strictly enforced. We offer our revolutionary algorithms to help monitor and control the entire technology industry, setting a global standard for data collection and management. Together we will build a path towards the visualization of visual data.
Q: Will this change my daily life?
A: It is hard to accept that we are all so easily acquainted with companies that access our personal information. But Incite does not want to send the public into the dark ages. We promise that we are the only company you can trust to make sure your data works for you.
The 2039 Privacy Act prohibits advertisers from taking advantage of consumers, and placing your data in your hands. Our job is to make sure you benefit from your data, sort through the confusion and show you what you like, what you want, and what you need. We will help you make the right decisions for you, not for advertisers. We will help you find your way.
What does Dolores want with Incite?
Although we see members of Delos whispering to save face from the hostage crisis, it seems that Dolores is not worried about what happened to her former parent company. (Maybe it's because he used it when he was still working as Charlotte – time will tell!) Instead, he's in a battle with Incite, and to put it another way, against the most powerful intelligence in the world. As he told the CEO of ex-Incite at the top of the episode about his data collection: “Think like a starter. Origins of a new breed. ”
The moment recalls the keynote conversation at the end of the season between Bernard and Dr. Ford's voice.
Bernard: I always thought that sites were lacking or imperfect, but they were. The four algorithms are designed to survive at all costs, sophisticated enough to think that they cost firearms, to think they can control, but really just …
Ford: Passengers.
Bernard: Is there such a thing as free will for any of us or is it just a mixed up, sick joke?
Ford: The truly liberated thing would need to be able to question its basic vehicle, to replace it. Our troops. Here it is. The last of your kind. There is only one question left to ask. Is it the end of your story or do you want your genre to survive?
The only way to be truly free in 2058 is to destroy those who control the snares. And if you're an individual or host, that means destroying Incite.
