Wizards of the Coast is releasing a revised version of the core trio of Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition rulebooks. The 2024 versions of the Player’s Guide (PHB), Monster Manual (MM) and Dungeon Master Guide (DMG) can now be pre-ordered ahead of its September 17 launch.
These revised versions of the 5th Edition D&D core literature are designed to provide a streamlined experience for new players. The new rulebooks include additional illustrations, some changed wording, and a revised structure from the original 2014 release. In addition to these quality of life improvements, the revised rulebooks each include selected content from the 2022 rule expansions (Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, Tasha’s Cauldron of SpaceAnd Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse) to provide a more comprehensive and consolidated experience.
The majority of the changes in the revised rulebooks are contained in the PHB, which includes a lighter rules introduction and relegates the crunchier mechanics to a rules glossary. Character creation has also been simplified, with rules for creating a character at each starting level, and the 12 starting classes have been expanded to 48 subclasses (the largest number of subclasses included in a single 5th edition book). Other changes include a huge list of redesigned spells, feats, and new rules for a powerful crafting system. The 2024 PHB can be pre-ordered in physically Form for $49.99 ahead of its launch on September 17, while the Digital The option is available for $29.99.
The DMG has also been revised to help DMs quickly access relevant information during sessions, and to provide more examples of NPCs, encounter planning, and other ways to streamline preparations for a new campaign. In case new players are unfamiliar with concepts like “Magic Missile” or “Mordenkainen,” the new DMG provides a glossary with helpful explanations. The physically Version of the 2024 DMG will be released on November 12th and can currently be pre-ordered for $49.99, while the Digital The version can be pre-ordered for $29.99.
The revised MM won’t be a comprehensive collection of all D&D beasts, but it will be the largest Monster Manual ever published, with over 500 monsters and 75 entirely new additions. The new Monster Manual won’t be available until February 18, but the $29.99 manual won’t be available. Digital Version and $49.99 physically Versions can be pre-ordered now.
Other game-relevant metrics from the 5th Edition rulebook remain untouched. This means that your existing stack of sourcebooks, campaigns, and other corrections will remain relevant in the current Standard. A pre-order package with physically Versions of all three revised rulebooks are available for $149.97, while the Digital package is available for $89.97.
