Westworld is back, and the first season of season 3 brought our first glimpse of the big city. But, unfortunately, the first episode completely spent in the parks of Delos is likely to give viewers more information on the park itself than ever before. Towards the end of the episode, it seems like maybe one character has introduced us to where the real island of Delos is.
(Vol. note: this post contains spoilers for Westworld Season 3, episode 1)
Toward the end of the episode, Bernard – who appears to be carrying some heavy stuff after leaving the park – talks to the local boat owner to bring him back to Westworld. To show the good man where he wants to go, Bernard chases the map and then for a moment to break down and see where he points.
What is clear on the map is that Bernard is pointing somewhere in the South China Sea. Specifically, it looks like you're crossing an actual island chain in a region called the Spratula Islands. These remote islands are an area dominated by the Chinese, which can be in line with the information we already have about the theme park.
Last year, we received a few well-known Chinese firearms, and Karl Strand ordered someone to clear the island. That supports both the notion that the park is an island, and that the island is under the control of the Chinese government.
Unfortunately, the image of Bernard pointing to the map does not give us a clear enough picture of exactly what the park of the island of Delos might be, but thankfully this is not the only time this particular place has appeared.
In the Finnish version of the last episode of season 2, the subtitles give a somewhat unpleasant message: a direct set of links. This is a reference to the location of the park, but it was difficult for fans to know whether or not they should really trust the place, since it was a random place in the South China Sea. Sounds familiar?
Now that we've seen that Bernard points to a similar location on his map, we should also understand those links to see if they give us a precise game of places, and as it turns out: M ischief Reef.
In the real world, Mischief Reef is actually a haven in the South China Sea. The sand is currently owned by the People & # 39; s Republic of China – but it has been a matter of conflict between the Philippines and China over the past three decades. Somewhere around 2016, China began developing the island into a military hub with artificial land. To the best of our knowledge, it exists now several anti-aviation programs and missile defense equipment at Mischief Reef and highway and aviation.
All this complex story, coupled with the recent military interest, makes Mischief Reef a great place to set up parks in Delos Westworld the atmosphere. That and the links, and the fact that Bernard points directly to Spratula Island means we can at least have the courage to say that WestworldDelos Park parks are located on Mischief Reef.
Of course this leaves a few questions for the show to answer. And so much more Westworld season 3 takes place in the real world and outside the boundaries of theme parks, maybe we'll learn how Delos was able to buy a war-torn island for the Chinese government.
