It is Valentine’s Day, meaning love is in the air. Maybe you have someone to grill, or maybe you’re holding on to an uninvited crush. And to be clear, we’re talking about video game characters. Because let’s face it: For some of us who have been playing video games since we were kids, game characters helped us figure out what kind of people we liked and what we wanted to see romance. So we want to know: Who is your biggest video game crush?
This could be someone you’ve actually been able to form a relationship with in a game, so we’re guessing there’ll be a lot of BioWare characters in the answers (and see you, Garrus lover, you are so valid). But it could also extend to characters you’re not allowed to snog. Maybe it’s a protagonist whose charisma you just have to love Nathan Drake. It could even be the antagonist of a game, because none of us are afraid to love a villain, no matter what Minthara in Baldur’s Gate 3 What it all showed us is that you can fix people if you try hard enough.

As for me? One of my earliest crushes was Catching Von Final Fantasy XIIIwhich remains an important part of me queer awakening. My current crush that I’m swooning over is Kafka Honkai: Star Rail. But my most enduring video game crush might be Edelgard von Hresvelg Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I still return to a mid-game save on my Switch from time to time just to have tea with her.
