Electricity, the magic horse-goat so you can move around Elden Rings World at Cruising Speed is one of the game’s highlights, but that doesn’t mean they’re perfect.
You may have noticed that Torrent’s health sometimes didn’t refill like other NPCs. Or that sometimes instead of allowing the player to double jump while exploring/travelling, the player just falls to their deaths and takes you with them.
While I’m sure some fans have deluded themselves that these were conscious choices — “Oh, Torrent’s heart is forever torn between freedom and bondage” or “the occasional long tumble is a reminder of life’s inherent pitfalls” —souls Expert and modder of the extra class Zullie The Witch has a more practical answer: one is a design oversight, the other is most likely a bug.
The health thing stems from the fact that Torrent isn’t controlled by the same script – which locks them to a specific point on the map – as other NPCs, although Zullie does point out in the video below that there are plenty of other ways to quickly health from Torrent recover by feeding them, drinking potions, or just letting them regenerate naturally (torrent “regenerates” 3 HP per second “passively”).
Now onto the falling thing, triggered when torrent falls off a ledge instead of jumping and leaves that player unable to trigger a second jump, thus falling into the sinking. Zullie explains in the video that this is not an accidental act of cruelty, but a bug that only affects players who wield certain types of weapons (from categories 2 and 3, such as large swords, spears, etc.). certain way (like over the shoulder). “This is most likely a bug,” they explain, “some flag was left out of the category 2 and 3 falling animations.”
The reason to bother with this is pretty funny; in an accompanying tweet, Zullie says “I used a spear, then a sword spear, and then a greatsword for my first playthrough of Elden Ring, which means I figured Torrent just couldn’t jump after falling off a ledge. It turns out that torrent has a few glitches that may need to be fixed.”
If you’re into stuff like that We featured some of Zullie’s other code diggers a few weeks ago when they took a look Elden Rings Secret Wall Saga.
