Star Wars Outlaws finally came to Steam last week. Unfortunately, there is also an issue with the latest version of Windows that causes the sci-fi open-world adventure and other Ubisoft games to not work. Microsoft has recognized the problem and is pausing the update in the meantime.
“After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you may experience issues with some Ubisoft games,” a warning says on the Microsoft website. “These games may stop responding when starting, loading, or while actively playing. In some cases, users may receive a black screen.” The following games are listed as “not compatible with the latest update.”
- Assassin's Creed Valhalla
- Assassin's Creed Odyssey
- Avatar: Borders of Pandora
- Star Wars Outlaws
- Assassin's Creed Origins
If you notice a pattern there, it's all open-world games from Ubisoft and some of the publisher's most popular releases in recent years. Microsoft has issued a compatibility hold to prevent the update from rolling out to PCs with the aforementioned games installed, and says it is working with Ubisoft “on a solution.”
Meanwhile, Ubisoft has released its own patch for Star Wars Outlaws to try to mitigate the issues for anyone who has already installed the latest Windows 11 update. “We have also just deployed a temporary hotfix (v1.4.1) for players who were experiencing issues while playing on Windows 11 24H2,” the patch notes read. “Please note that performance issues may occur while we work on a more permanent solution.”
It's not clear how many players are actually affected by the issue. The Windows Update rollout began earlier this month and before November 21st. Star Wars Outlaws was only available through Ubisoft's proprietary Ubisoft+ launcher. Assassin's Creed ValhallaOn the other hand, there are probably millions of PC gamers who could potentially face problems when trying to launch the game in the near future.
