That is the good news The witcher 3already a very good looking game, will look even better when it does Next gen update is released. The bad news is that for anyone playing the game on PC, many of your favorite mods from the last seven years won’t work work more.
If CDPR explain in a blog post“Updating a game means that we change various files, so the mods that change those very files no longer work.” And when it comes to making those updates, CDPR has prioritized changes that improve the base game rather than keeping older things the same for mods.
However, CDPR acknowledges that it’s been six years since the last major update to the PC version of the game, saying that’s “a long time to get used to your favorite mods,” and so in an effort to “bring these Making the transition as smooth as possible” have compiled a list of some of the community’s most popular mods, tested them and shared which ones work with the next-gen update and which ones don’t.
Some of them work! Unfortunately Many of them, especially those that rely on scripts, don’t. As CDPR says, “Because we are changing scripts in the update due to the addition of a new quest, most of the mods that rely on scripts will fail.” For mod creators who are concerned about this, a team of “Modding Experts” from CDPR will be there to “give help and advice to modders on post-release forums where possible”.
Helping to mitigate this somewhat, however, is an accompanying announcement that the next-gen update will ship with some fan-made mods built into it at launch:
Also, we are including several popular mods in the update (they will be available depending on the platform). We’ve obtained their creators’ permissions, refunded them, and they will appear in the updated game’s credits. The mods have been overhauled and the assets tweaked as needed and the game adjusted to run with it. There was even one case where a developer got so engrossed in tinkering with inserting a mod that they ended up just re-creating that particular aspect of the game. So in a way, the game already has some mods in it.
G/O Media may receive a commission
That’s neat! Especially the reimbursement part.
