Witch continues its journey into the countryside. The popularity of A show led by Henry Cavill resulted in a spinoff anime being called Wolf's Dark Night, a the sound which includes Jaskier's songs, and a 500,000-book duplication of the original series. We reached out to Andrzej Sapkowski, founder of Witch, getting his thoughts on the series and the rebuilding of fans is inspired. His answers were amazing.
In this industry, you keep in touch with many people. Most of the time it sounds like a complicated dance, with someone interviewing and questioning in an effort to find out the truth or avoid revealing too much of it. It can be frustrating. But every once in a while, you have the opportunity to talk to someone who chooses not to hide behind obstacles to avoid it, to be too subjective, or to be dishonest.
In an io9 interview with Sapkowski, conducted via email, there was no dance. I put my hand on my first song, as usual, but Sapkowski turned it off, choosing to sit down at a nearby bar and tell me what. For better or worse. The end result might not be so good, but it certainly was refreshing.
Sapkowski spoke about his reservation on TV Witch, much to the surprise of the production process, why he doesn't play video games, and why getting half a million copies of his book series made him happy What else can you expect: despair? Below is our full interview.
Io9: When you first discussed doing adaptation Witch Books, how did you feel about it? Did you receive a reservation?
Andrzej Sapkowski: I must admit I was skeptical at first. I've been around a lot of people, especially away from seriousness. So I became discouraged and it was hard to deceive when another donation broke out. But the offer was like business and the people who followed it were sympathetic. I had every reason to respond positively.
Io9: How did you get involved in the production process?
Sapkowski: Not so much, at my own request. I don't like working too hard or too long. By the way, I don't like working at all. Let him who is without sin cast the first stone. According to John 8: 7.
Io9: Is there any particular emphasis on inclusion or exclusion?
Sapkowski: For the record: I firmly believe in the freedom of the artist and his artistic expression. I do not interfere and do not impose my views on other artists. I am not against anything and I am not fighting for anything. I advise. Where necessary. And he asked.
Io9: Are there any changes to create the show that made you agree with, or change your perspective on your work?
Sapkowski: It was inevitable. The process of converting words into images cannot be done without any loss. But I'd rather keep my personal details.
Io9: What is most surprising about the production process?
Sapkowski: Many things. Although I am not easily surprised like that. Believe it or not, when I write I don't see any pictures. Not a noticeable process for me. I only see characters and work with characters. So, when I see a piece of work in the imagination – be it comedy, games or films – sometimes I am really surprised. It's really exciting.
Io9: What do you think is the best translated scanner to show adaptation?
Sapkowski: My name appears on the credits. I can't praise the show. It can't be good.
Io9: Do you feel like you have not successfully translated the screen into a change of show?
Sapkowski: I'll be a bit hesitant to say. My name appears on the credits.
Io9: How to compare The Witch show video games? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each method?
Sapkowski: I can't compare anything to video games, because I've never played any more. Ever since I was a kid I've never played any games – except bridge and poker. Video games are not just for me, I prefer books as entertainment. However, in my opinion the TV series and video games – any of them – are incomparable. They are very different from proximity, which it does – and it's purpose. You cannot compare spaghetti carbonara with a bicycle. Or both have advantages and disadvantages.
Io9: What is your reaction to reading your books getting 500,000 reps after the release of the Netflix show?
Sapkowski: How do you think I answer this question? That I was in despair? S tears tears? Considered suicidal? No sir. My feelings were very clear and not too complicated.
io9: Witch The likes have been seen to come back from the show, both in books and video games. Why do you feel that is so?
Sapkowski: I'm tempted to say that this happened because of the author's exceptional talent, but I didn't do that, I had a lot of humility. I will answer your question in the Latin proverb: habent sua fata libelli, books have their limits.
Io9: For fans of the show who haven't read your book series before, what do you hope they will come out to read for the first time?
Sapkowski: Let them please themselves. So don't wait anymore, guys and gums. Read books.
Io9: What are you looking forward to in the future? Witch show, renewed season two?
Sapkowski: Allow me to quote Joe Abercrombie, an author whose books have greatly influenced my passion: It is good to keep expectations low. Maybe you will be surprised. ”
Io9: Any additional comments?
Sapkowski: Not at all. Thank you.
