The latest big patch for Civilization 6 fell this week and there was a great new addition: you can finally pet the dog! Petting cats? Firaxis has some strong opinions there.
The recording appears as a new option in the Pathfinder menu bar, even though it is not on the list Sticky notes to the Civ 6Update from April 2021
It’s a great little animation for a very good boy. I even like the little tiny heart icons that they have on the toolbar.
There’s only one problem. While Civ 6 has no problem patting dogs, patting cats just isn’t the right thing to do. Former Kotaku Australia Editor David Wildgoose and longtime Civ Fan spotted the exclusion this morning:

“You don’t just stroke a cat,” says the game’s English tooltip. This is a nod to the fact that this is a Sean Bean meme, and it’s Sean Bean also the narrator for civilization WE.
I’m not so sure about this one Firaxis. I mean, when the scout walks around with a trio of cats, I think they’ll be ready for a chin massage every now and then. Sure, maybe they would migrate a week or two and then leave the poor scout behind, wondering if the cats still loved them, or if they even remembered all the good times they had spent together. But then they’d come back, screaming for food, then purring away happily as if nothing had happened.
Where was I? Oh yes, pat the cat. Come on, Firaxis. Patch it!
