Patty Jenkins, the director of the two Wonder Woman films starring Gal Gadot, has commented on the cancellation wonder woman 3 by Warner Bros., which The Hollywood Reporter reported on last week.
Jenkins posted a statement on Twitter who claimed that she “never left” the project. Jenkins replied to a Follow-up report from The Wrap who claimed Jenkins refused to revise her treatment for the film after producers turned her down. According to the report, the producers invited her to re-pitch, but she quit rather than revise her ideas.
“That’s just not true,” Jenkins wrote in her statement. “I never went away. I was open to whatever was asked of me. It was my understanding that there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this point.
Jenkins blamed the corporate upheaval on Warner Bros., which is restructuring and streamlining production following its merger with Discovery, as it also seeks to reorganize DC film and television under the new banner of DC Studios and its heads James Gunn and Peter Saffron. “DC is obviously buried in changes that they need to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now,” she said.
Gunn tacitly offered approval of Jenkins’ version of events. Reply to Jenkins’ tweethe said, “I can attest that all of Peter’s and my interactions with you have been nothing but pleasant and professional.”
Jenkins also set the record directly rogue squadron, the Star Wars film she was set to do before it was scrapped from Disney’s schedule. The film remains in active development, she said, although it’s not a dead certainty that it will be made.
Jenkins explained that she originally left rogue squadron due to a scheduling conflict with wonder woman 3but that Lucasfilm had asked if she would come back and do it after the DC film, to which she agreed.
“I originally left rogue squadron after a long and productive development process when it became clear that it couldn’t happen soon enough and i didn’t want to delay it 3rd World War no further,” she said. “When I did that, Lucasfilm asked me to consider returning RS
Allegedly rogue squadron has an improved chance of getting back on track wonder woman 3 no longer on Jenkins’ schedule.
In her statement, Jenkins paid tribute to Wonder Woman fans as well as Gadot and Lynda Carter, the actress who portrayed the character on television in the 1970s, and the character of Wonder Woman herself. “Living in and around her values makes you everyday a better person,” she said. “I wish her and her legacy a fantastic future, with or without me.”
