Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that Arkane Studios will launch this week redfall is “disappointing” but that the studio behind it is determined to keep working on it. Spencer, talk about them A bit of fun games Xcast On Thursday, he also took responsibility for launching a rough game at the new price of $70 for Xbox.
Spencer said that critical response to redfall was “significantly lower” than Microsoft’s internal ratings of the game – on Metacritic, the average review score is 59 out of 100. User reviews are far less positive.
“We do mock reviews for every game we release, and that’s double digits lower than what we expected for this game,” Spencer explained. “That’s one of the disappointing things; We would never aspire to release a game that we thought would be reviewed in the low 60’s – it’s not part of our goals. [Redfall] was significantly lower than our internal metrics in terms of where it was actually reviewed. But that doesn’t concern anyone but us. We must own this.
Spencer said Microsoft and Arkane are taking this feedback to heart, pointing to other long-supported games from Xbox Game Studios as examples of how committed to bug fixes are.
“In terms of our commitment to the game […], the Arkane team is taking the short-term feedback,” he said. “We are still working on the 60 fps [update]. We have a good schedule for that. We are committed to this and will continue to work on it [on] the game. We have shown a commitment to games like this Sea of Thieves
Ultimately, Spencer said, “We let a lot of people down this week with the launch of the game, but we’ll keep trying.”
Spencer also addressed a frequently asked question: why not delay redfall until it is finished? (The game was significantly delayed back in 2022.)
“There are quality issues and we’re working on them, but I think there’s a basic feedback we’re getting that the game isn’t realizing the creative vision it had for its players,” Spencer said. “It doesn’t feel like one Hey, just delay it [situation]. It feels like the game has a goal, a thing to do, and when the players are actually playing, they don’t feel that thing, that creative execution of the team.”
“If a game has to be postponed – what did we do with it starfieldwhat we did with it gloriole [Infinite]what we did with it redfall — because the production schedule says We have this vision and our production schedules are not taking us to the completion of this visionwe do delay games.”
