Xbox Game Pass is a big treat for horror fans this Halloween

A very happy lobster in a shirt in Frog Detective.

Look, that’s a terrifying screenshot if you’re as scared of crustaceans as I am.

Just a few weeks ago we updated ours Guide to the best Halloween games on Game Pass, so naturally Xbox has made everything obsolete by announcing a bunch of spoopy titles it’s adding to the subscription service. With names like amnesia and somaget ready for the highest level it wears out. Oh and A Plague Tale: Requiem is today’s turn.

A Plague Tale: Requiemthe sequel to 2019’s action-adventure Misery-em-up innocenceis the headline as you once again flee French Inquisition soldiers and the black plague, and Affirming the Game Pass day-one release power that PlayStation doesn’t want to touch. That should already appear in your account, filled with all the desperate human horror rather than the hilarious Halloween hauntings.

In the latter department comes the miraculous Amnesia: The Dark Descent on October 20th, a first-person horror that’s still terrifying over a decade since it was first released, and here it is in its recently updated console version. It really is one of the scariest games I’ve ever played, with its incredibly hands-on physics that will make you pull on drawers and doors and always expect the worst. It comes along with all its sequels and also the 2020 follow-up, Amnesia: rebirth. Oh, and another terrifying first-person survival horror from the same team, Frictional called soma. That’s a lot of fear.

Obviously, people will be happy to see high school roleplaying games Person 5 Royal added, namely indie shooter Gunfire rebornbut I’m looking forward to it the most Frog detective: The whole secret Arriving on PC’s Game Pass. If you haven’t played the first two chapters of this amazingly fun adventure series, then you’re in for a treat. They’re joined by the brand new third and final chapter, all on the 27th (MY BIRTHDAY) and I’m hooked. They are the most incredible mix of bizarre, cute and hilarious.

Here’s the whole Caboodle:

October 18th

A Plague Tale: Requiem (Cloud, PC and Xbox Series X|S)

the 20th of October

Amnesia: collection (Cloud, Console and PC)

As always, Xbox gives, but Xbox takes away, so we lose a few games too. Disappeared on October 31st:

  • Alan Wake: American Nightmare (Console and PC)
  • backbone (Cloud, Console and PC)
  • Bass master fishing 2022 (Cloud, Console and PC)
