If you are unfamiliar The North Wind she plays like a normal red fox whose name is attached to the Light Lights guard, a female spirit fox. As you hike in the mountains and under a reddened sky, you will find out more about your friend and the land left devastated.
At Ghost of the North we took a mix of Finnish mythology and the Icelandic plains to create what we believe to be a very unique experience for the players.
The folklore is that the North-inspired air is derived from the Finnish belief of “Tulikettu.” According to the legend when “Fire Fox” runs over the snowy hills its tail breaks into sparks. This combination of light rises in the sky and forms the Northern lights. The Finnish name for Northern Lights also means fox fires.
Stones or Runestones was another great inspiration for the game, we thought it would be great things to interact with and use as a target or puzzle. Most of the historic Runestones or Stones are found in Scandinavia which allows them to fit the Ghost of the North theme perfectly.
The view of Ghost of the North was heavily inspired by Icelandic destinations. Tayler (a civil engineer) visited Iceland in 2017 and was inspired by the brave places. Black sand, hexagonal columns of basalt, useless vistas, blue glacier ice, and black pools all made it the ultimate game design.
North Spirit has taken our two-person studio for about two and a half years to develop and deliver. Over that time we held on to our vision and inspiration from the beginning. We think Ghost of the North is a world that everyone can relax and enjoy. Northern Wind is available on the PS4.
