Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment has released a new gameplay trailer for their upcoming Season 9, called “Legacy,” which showcases a new permanent mode called Arenas, the new legend, Valkyrie, his new bow weapon, and updates to maps. It’s just over six minutes of concentrated gameplay that should get anyone remotely familiar with the popular free video game and excited for the new season launching on May 4 on all platforms.
Arenas mode, which is permanent, is a 3v3 round-based mode with rotating maps. Players can grab gear from a shop between rounds using crafting materials, but equipment is not carried over through rounds. Bottom line: Expect all the normal Battle Royale map madness in a smaller, more intimate space.
As for the new Legend, Valkyrie can fly a bit and fire a swarm of missiles, and her Ultimate allows her to take herself and any squadmates hooked up to the sky for a quick getaway. The exact details of his abilities have yet to be shared, but the gameplay footage looks vivid. The trailer also shows off the new Bocek Bow, as well as Olympus map updates, including the addition of some sort of parasitic planet infestation. Honestly, the entire trailer is worth watching if you’re interested in the title.
Apex Legends is currently available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, Nintendo Switch and PC and is in the middle of Season 8 – Mayhem. Season 9, which appears to have dropped the number in favor of a single name with “Legacy,” will launch on May 4 with the new Valkyrie Legend.
