Apex Legends lead writer Tom Casiello and Valkyrie actress Erika Ishii gave an interview to YouTuber and streamer MoonLiteWolfPro in which they discussed Respawn’s game, but especially the role of the new legend. In addition, Ishii told how very casually it was revealed that her character was a lesbian from the beginning.
And it is that Valkyrie, the daughter of Viper in Titanfall 2, exists in the universe of the game since its conception and Ishii has known her role for at least a couple of years. However, he had not been able to reveal it due to confidentiality contracts, so he confesses that he has wanted to talk about Valkyrie for a long time.

More representation
At minute 14:40 Isshi mentions that from Respawn they mentioned to him that Valkyrie had a girlfriend and that’s how he learned that his character was going to be canonically gay. In this sense, Casiello contributed that he was pleased that from the beginning they talked about Valkyrie’s sexuality and that there were no problems with that in the study. In addition, a final comment was saved for those who are likely to be disgusted with Valkyrie’s sexual orientation.
“If you have a problem with the fact that we are pitching with two black women, if you have a problem with the fact that we have a non-binary character, we don’t want you to play our game. Goodbye”.
In this way, Valkyrie would be the fifth legend to be part of the LGBTQ community, or the sixth if you consider Mirage one. For now it is known that the following characters belong to that community: Fuse (pansexual), Loba is (bisexual), Gibraltar (gay), Bloodhound (non-binary) and Valkyrie (lesbian). Mirage’s case is in doubt as it has not been confirmed and her possible bisexuality is only based on a joke she makes in The First Ship comic.
In any case, the actress, Erika Ishii, confesses very excited to represent Valkyrie and has invited players to try her on May 4 when the ninth season of Apex Legends begins.
