Respawn Entertainment has another Apex Legends event planned for next week with the infamous Mad Maggie turning Apex Games into “War Games.” This War Games event will consist of five different game modes and each of them will have a different modifier than the previous one. They all come together to create a rather innovative variety of different gaming experiences, and players will be able to see it all in action starting April 13.
The game modes in question only last a couple of days each, so you will have to be active during the two weeks of the War Games event if you want to experience them all. As you would expect players to have come to expect from events like these, we will also see a new event track full of rewards that players can work on for the duration of the event.

A couple of additional skins will also be added to Apex Legends that offer new versions of some of the classic Legends styles, but they do not appear to be included in the rewards and will likely need to be purchased separately.
You can get an overview of the different game modes below along with the dates they will take place. It’s worth noting as well that this Wargames event is specifically a Wargames Acquisition event, so these game modes will replace the traditional gaming experience while live.
Second Chance: Tuesday 4/13 – Thursday 4/15
The first of the new game modes, Second Chance, changes the respawn system in Apex Legends. Rather than requiring your teammates to collect your banner and carry it to a respawn beacon, this game mode rewards each player with a free respawn that activates after they are eliminated.
While new respawns from other players are usually perfect opportunities for more kills as they are unarmed in normal matches, that won’t be the case here. Players who respawn in Second Chance mode return with their entire gear after a short delay upon death, so watch out for players who respawn during extended firefights.
Ultra Zones: Thursday, April 15 – Monday, April 19
For loot fans in Apex Legends who love to visit the Ultra Zones at the beginning of a match, Ultra Zones is the game mode for you as the name suggests, this mode adds more than one Ultra Zone to the game to provide multiplayer opportunities to win valuable gold items.
On top of that, Ultra Zones is bringing back a feature from Season 6: The Flash Points. If you weren’t able to play the limited time mode that introduced this two seasons ago, a Flash Point is a large bubble that replenishes health and shields when you’re inside. However, the consumables have not been removed in this mode, so you don’t have to hunt for these Flash Points just to heal yourself.
Car Banners: Monday, April 19 – Wednesday, April 21
Continuing the trend of comeback swings established by the Second Chance game mode, Auto Banners is another take on the traditional experience that makes it easy to rejoin a fight. In this mode, players who are eliminated automatically give their banners to their teammates so that they can respawn as soon as a respawn beacon is reached.
This means there is no need to run after death boxes once someone falls, and for the winning parties, there is no reason to camp out a death box to make sure the other team doesn’t return. Respawn Entertainment said that the loot pool in this mode has been changed to include more mobile respawn beacons, so expect to see a lot of players returning to the game in this mode.
Killing time: Wednesday April 21 – Friday April 23
Auto Banners matches can take a while with all respawns, but Time to Kill matches definitely won’t. In this game mode, things start to move faster as the legends die. Respawn Entertainment said that with the death of each legend, the time of the current round will be shortened.
That means if a lot of people are dying on your killfeed, the ring will be closing in fast. Assuming a respawned and killed player will count as two separate kills, games will move even faster as players respawn.
Armor Regeneration: Friday, April 23 – Tuesday, April 27
Last but not least, we have Armor Regeneration, a game mode that follows the instructions of Wattson’s new passive trait. During an Armor Regeneration match, as the name suggests, players will gradually regenerate their armor as long as they are not in direct combat.
How this works is governed by how recently players took damage. Respawn Entertainment said that armor begins to regenerate at a rate of 12 points per second and that effect kicks in eight seconds after the last time a player took damage. If his shield is completely broken, it takes 16 seconds for regeneration to begin. The biggest drawback of all is that there aren’t any shield cells in the loot pool, so don’t expect to get your shields back that way.
Reviews of the War Games
Above, you will see the event tracker for all the prizes that players can win during the Wargames event. There’s an epic cosmetic for Rampart, another skin for Crypto, two weapon charms to adorn players’ weapons, and a 30-30 Repeater skin waiting for you at the end of the mini battle pass.
Only 1,000 points can be earned each day with challenges that update daily, a system Apex Legends players should be familiar with by now. One of the more notable rewards included in the track is not just one, but five total levels from the Season 8 battle pass that are earned upon completion, so if you have a few more levels in this season’s battle pass, be sure to complete all the challenges during the War Games event.
