Hello everyone! Square Enix and PlatinumGames are excited to show you our brand new Combat 101 trailer for Babylon’s Fall and take a closer look at all things combat. In Babylon’s Fall, you play as a Sentinel, the former prisoners of the Empire. A parasitic device called Gideon Coffin is implanted in your back and grants you unparalleled powers. You must master your true potential to survive at the top and take on the Tower of Babel.
Load your arsenal
As seen in the trailer above, weapons are your choice as you can wield four weapons in Babylon’s Fall. Each weapon type has distinct skills and abilities, with endless customization so you find exactly how you like to play.
The Quadrangle not only allows you to customize your playstyle, but also react to whatever threats the Tower of Babel throws at you. Whether it’s equipping four identical weapons or mixing them up, the choice is yours with hundreds of versions available.
However, you’ll want to consider the different enemy types when arming yourself for combat, as you’ll be up against all kinds of enemies, from flying and armored to ranged and melee. Each weapon will be adept at handling different situations, such as hitting flying enemies with ranged weapons will yield more success. By attacking protected enemies with a hammer, you will easily break their guard.
Let’s take a closer look at the loading options:
swords – An excellent choice for all round combo attacks. New Sentinels will find this suitable for whatever dangers are thrown at you, but experienced Sentinels may want to add some range to their arsenal. Launch your enemies into the air with special spectral attacks.
Hammers – For warriors looking for power rather than speed, hammers are your friend. Enemies will know when your hammer is at full power. Strike devastating blows and reduce your enemies to dust.
Bows – Those who want to strike down their enemies from afar should always bring their trusty bow with them.
Wielding the bow allows a Sentinel to stay out of the heat of battle, firing a volley of arrows at their enemies. But those looking for elemental destruction should look to Rods.
walking sticks – Offering great versatility on the battlefield, canes not only allow you to strike from afar, but also inflict debilitating debuffs on your enemies or bolster your party with powerful buffs. But know that using the full power of the rods is taxing on even the toughest Sentinels.
Shields – Don’t forget the shields! You can use them to taunt waves of enemies and deploy protective barriers to aid other Sentinels who join you on your adventures. What they lack in offensive capabilities, they more than make up for in protecting you and your fellow Sentinels.
Each weapon comes with its own set of stats and enchantments, meaning one sword can be very different from another. So be sure to collect as much loot as possible from your adventures.
Specializing in these weapons will be key to your ascent of the tower. But be sure to coordinate with other Sentinels using in-game emotes (gestures) to work together to deal with the toughest enemies.
Gideon’s coffin
You may have heard of gutwork in the trailer, which brings us back to Gideon Coffin.
This device offers the ability to use gutwork actions to help you master your journey through the tower. Gutwork actions are special actions that use the Gideon Gut with various benefits, here are some examples:
Soul Corrupt allows you to channel dark energy into the soul of a captive enemy. You can weaken them with debuffs.
Use Soul Snatch to attach to a downed or recently killed enemy and gain the ability to steal their HP and SP.
Now that you have these basics, you will be ready to begin your ascent of the tower of babel.
Babylon’s Fall arrives on March 3. PlayStation owners will have access to a free downloadable demo of Babylon’s Fall starting tomorrow, February 25, with any progress made available to transfer over to the full game.
