The release date for Battlefield 2042 has been revealed and will arrive in time for the holidays this year.
EA and DICE gave the Battlefield 2042 release date of October 22, 2021 as part of today’s big debut event for the game, and it’s slated to hit PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. That date It falls comfortably within the fall 2021 release window that EA had previously described, when we called it Battlefield 6.
As the name suggests, this next entry in the Battlefield series ranges from a semi-historical reenactment of WWII battles to a global conflict in the near future. In addition to the usual premise of “what if the cold but not cold war” of the United States and Russia came to blows, the next battlefield will include factions of “non-patriotic” mercenary soldiers, whose countries of origin failed in the face of scarcity. massive resource and refugee crisis.
If you’re not one to dwell on the stories behind the battles, what this near-future world means to you is a selection of 10 dedicated specialists to choose from at launch, rather than the standard Battlefield classes. You’ll play as these specialists throughout Battlefield 2042, even in the massive 128-player matches of All-Out Warfare mode (or 64-player matches with properly condensed maps if you’re on PS4 or Xbox One).
Seven maps will be available for All-Out Warfare at launch. And if that “at launch” chorus is getting familiar, it’s because EA and DICE once again plan to add a ton of new content to the game over continuous seasons, with free and paid Battle Pass levels to work with.
EA has also confirmed that this battlefield will not have a single player campaign, but you will be able to play the game’s All-Out Warfare modes with AI partners and opponents.
If October seems too far away right now, you may not have to wait that long to get your first shot at Battlefield 2042. EA plans to contact “players identified as Battlefield veterans” for a technical test in early July, and a La Open beta will be available before launch with early access for players who pre-order the full game.
