The wait for Chivalry 2 has been a long one, and the first game was released almost nine years ago. However, aspiring knights will have a chance to play the new game in early June. Fortunately, those who want to try it sooner will be able to do so soon.
On the TORN BANNER website, the developer revealed that the Chivalry 2 open beta:
IT WILL START IN JUST MORE THAN ONE WEEK. STARTING MAY 27, PLAYERS ON PC, PS4, PS5, XBOX ONE AND XBOX SERIES X WILL BE ABLE TO TEST THE GAME PRIOR TO LAUNCH. STARTING AT 11 AM EDT, THE OPEN BETA PERIOD WILL LAST UNTIL JUNE 1. THE BETA WILL TEST THE FEATURES OF CHIVALRY 2’S CROSS PLAY, MEANING THAT PLAYERS ON EACH PLATFORM CAN FACE EACH OTHER.
The open beta includes a wealth of content for players to participate in. The blog post highlights a few different battles, sieges, and game modes that players will be able to participate in during the open beta, including The Siege of Rudhelm, The Slaughter of Coxwell, free-for-all, full customization options, duel servers, lobbies for 64/40 people and more.
Console players should note that while PlayStation players will not require a PS Plus subscription to jump into the action, Xbox players will need to be a Xbox Live Gold subscriber in order to play the open beta. Also, PC gamers should be aware that the open beta will be running through the Epic Game Store, rather than Steam or any other PC-based platform. It’s a small amount of red tape for almost all platforms, but it can still affect which platform players choose to participate on.
Those interested in Chivalry 2 will be able to preload the open beta on May 26, the day before its launch. This is the last chance players will have to get their hands on the game before it launches, whether they want to use that time to simply taste what’s to come, or perhaps inform their purchasing decisions. While it is not a full week, the five-day period offers a decent opportunity for players to get a taste of the game.
Lately there has been a revival of the medieval fighting genre, with games like Chivalry 2 and Mordhau helping to reinvigorate the scene. More games similar to these may start to appear if Chivalry 2 has staying power, which would certainly be a boon for those investing in the genre.
Chivalry 2 launches June 8 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
