Destiny 2 sets the Vault of Glass release date, with the same story but with “other differences”

The Destiny 2 Vault of Glass release date has been revealed, and the Guardians will be ready for the world’s first races in just a few short weeks.

The original Destiny’s first raid will return starting Saturday, May 22 at 10 am PDT / 1 pm EDT / 6 pm BST, and Bungie scoffs that the overall story will be the same “but you may notice other differences.” The raid should feel similar overall with a few updates to make it feel more consistent with the rest of Destiny 2, and those updates include a new finish line for the second Vault of Glass world first race.

Once up and running, Vault of Glass will be playable in Contest mode, which imposes a set challenge level with a set power limit; in this case, anything above the 1300 power level will not provide an additional advantage. Once your team destroys Atheon, you’ll unlock the new Challenge Mode in the Director and the associated Tempo’s Edge Triumph. Competing teams will officially end as soon as they complete this Triumph list (and the challenges themselves will return later in the season for a more informal completion).

The verified world’s first team will be rewarded with a real physical championship belt, inscribed with the names of the new team and the original 2014 Vault of Glass first world champions. Even after the race is over, all players can watch eager to earn special raid rewards and Bungie rewards for finishing the new vault of glass, including a special emblem to mark your achievement.

As Bungie celebrates the story of Destiny, it is also working on “a new secret world parallel to Destiny” that is set to arrive in 2025.
