Hello everyone. I’m Catherine Jensen, and I lead the Global Consumer Experience section here at The PlayStation. Our department works every day to create the best gaming experience in our community on the PlayStation Network.
Management online safety it is an important part of proving that. We believe it is important for gamers to be able to quickly and accurately report abuse or harassment when they hear it while on the PlayStation Network. As part of this program, we were preparing to release a new feature on the PS5 console that allows game players to report verbal abuse through a new Voice Chat reporting function
PlayStation players learned about this new function in an unexpected way after the update of the latest PS4 8.00 version. We did not discuss this feature properly or explain why we are introducing it, and we apologize for that. When the PS5 console launches in November, PS5 users will be able to chat with PS4 users – which is why we needed to include advice on the latest PS4 system updates.
We should have clearly explained why this work is being released, as well as details of how it will work on the PS5 console,
Once the PS5 console has started, if a PS5 player needs to file a harassment report, they will be able to add a 40-second Voice Chat clip to their report – 20 seconds of basic chat with another player, and an additional 10 seconds before and after the chat selection. Only the latest five minutes of Voice Chat will be available for the player to use for this reporting function.
These reports can be sent directly through the PS5 console, and will be sent to our Consumer Experience team for evaluation, which will listen to the recording and take action, if necessary. Some reports submitted will not work, and our team will take this as an opportunity to provide guidance and training. There will be no option to opt out of this Voice Chat recording function because we want all users to feel safe when playing with others online, not just those who choose to enable you.
