Hi everyone, Super Bomberman R Online and its unique Battle 64 mode launches on PS4 and PS5 as a free game on May 27! We’re excited that players of all ages can jump into Bomberman for fun online battles with friends and family.
Before we get started, we wanted to pass you some tips and tricks straight from the game development team. Battles of Bomberman are quick and easy to pick up and play, but the game has some hidden tips and surprising characters and capacity building. To get a head start and increase your chances of becoming Bomber One, check out the following tips:
1. Safety first
An exploding bomb immediately sets off other nearby bombs and can cause chain reactions. If you try to place bombs in a row you might end up blowing yourself up by your own bombs, so focus on controlling and predicting blast zones first.
2. Smart bomb placement
Some soft blocks have power-ups hidden inside, so use your bombs to release them. Be careful though, you can get trapped between a block and your own bomb. However, you can destroy up to three brown soft blocks with a single bomb, so keep that in mind and place your bombs in the best spots possible instead of placing too many.
3. Keep calm and explode
The game may seem fast at first, but stay calm. You can dodge other players and their bombs from the start and focus on finding bonuses and getting used to the way the action unfolds. Do you need a break from the heat? Look for the Green Loulou Eggs to collect: they hatch a loyal and swift ally you can ride, help, and protect your bomber.
4. Drilling action
Pierce special bombs have a large radius. It’s great for finding other power-ups or surprising enemies who think they’re safe. If you’re in a rush, Aqua is a great character to learn with as she starts off with Pierce Bomb equipped. This can be a big plus while you’re learning how to play and trying to grab a lot of power-ups. Aqua will make you a force to be reckoned with: because Pierce Bombs are very powerful, they are extremely dangerous in the last step once the area starts to shrink.
5. Too much is not enough
You have an upper limit on how many power-ups you can hold, and it will vary per bomber. So choose your bomber carefully after checking if its abilities match your playstyle, but keep grabbing power-ups. If you take a power-up and your bomber can’t use it, it’s destroyed so your enemies can’t use it against you.
6. Strategic power-ups
Prioritize Bomb Kick and Bomb Punch bonuses whenever you can. They are more versatile than other power-ups and can be used for offense or defense. The Bomb Kick will push the bombs away from you until they hit another object. The Bomb Punch will throw bombs at obstacles three squares away and can even be used at the edge of the map to coil a bomb on the other side. Practice makes it perfect to make good use of the lesser known tricks you can achieve with these abilities.
Now that you’re ready, let’s see how you can get by in a quick Battle 64. Super Bomberman R Online will be available from May 27 on PlayStation 4 and playable on PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility. Get it for free from PlayStation Store.
