The Elden Ring release date is set for January 21, 2022, as revealed in a new trailer for the game.
A new trailer for Elden Ring was released during today’s Summer Game Fest broadcast, giving us our first official look at the game in years, and easily our best look yet, complete with horseback riding through a massive open world. , magic and hand-to-hand combat, and lots of hulking bosses.
Unsurprisingly, the long-awaited action RPG is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X, as well as PS4, Xbox One, and PC. With the release date still fresh, we naturally have no details on the differences or next-gen updates at the moment.
The new trailer opens with a wide shot of the game’s massive world before introducing our main character, who appears to be known as the Tarnished. A huge Yggdrasil-style tree towers over the landscape, and in true From Software style, all of this is narrated by a soft-spoken young woman stylized as some kind of oracle. From there, get on our horse and go into battle.
The rest of today’s reveal is a true boss race – nearly 180 seconds of nearly non-stop combat. The distinctive brand of melee, magic and ranged combat software is on full display, now with the addition of horse attacks, and there are too many giants, monstrosities, and fantastic creatures to count. Dragons, Werewolves, Man Made of Arms! It’s hard to know what is a boss and what is a normal enemy at the moment, but we are definitely looking at more than a handful of the great evils that we will slaughter as the Faded.
Crucially, we also take a look at multiplayer in action as our main character teams up with two friendly ghosts – either white or blue, it remains to be seen – to take on an enemy camp. Multiplayer seems purely cooperative so far, but PvP isn’t out of the question.
Originally announced at E3 2019, Elden Ring is a new action RPG from the developer of Dark Souls From Software, directed by series director Hidetaka Miyazaki, created in collaboration with Game of Thrones writer George RR Martin. Given the popularity of its creators and the long and quiet nature of its development, Elden Ring has been the subject of countless leaks and rumors ranging from leaked images to fake images and the possible return of Dark Souls PvP and class systems.
