The decision was made so that the developers could focus on the main campaign.
Far Cry 6 has been revealed to be breaking with tradition and will not include a map editor, removing the arcade mode from the series entirely.
In fact, a group of developers at Ubisoft confirmed yesterday in an AMA on Reddit that arcade mode will not be in any future Far Cry titles in the future. When asked by an excited fan if the map editor would return in Far Cry 6, game director Alexandre Letendre replied very clearly that arcade mode will never return, explaining that the decision was made so that the developers could focus on the main campaign. :
“No, Arcade will not return,” explains Letendre. “Removing this mode from our plan was a difficult decision, but it allowed us to focus our efforts on the main campaign, transporting players to the heart of today’s guerrilla revolution.”
While arcade mode will have been a popular hobby for some, Ubisoft likely hasn’t seen enough commitment to the mode to continually dedicate resources to maintaining it or generating new ideas. Now that the developers are working solely on the main campaign, hopefully that means we’ll get an even better Far Cry story to sink our teeth into.
However, the AMA was not all disappointing news, and several interesting details about Far Cry 6 have been revealed. First of all, all your companions in the game will be animals, such as Chorizo the Dog and Guapo the Crocodile, and it has been confirmed that the game will take advantage of the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback of the Dualsense. The grappling hook and wingsuit will return as well, but fan-favorite character Hurk won’t appear this time around, at least not in the main game.
You may also have missed the news that Far Cry 6 narrative leader Navid Khavari released a statement addressing the controversy surrounding political issues within the game. Despite headlines claiming that Ubisoft does not want to “make a political statement,” Khavari clarified his comments and explained that there will be many “tough and relevant discussions” in Far Cry 6.
