A new edition of the Summer Game Fest and with it new releases and insights on the most anticipated games of the year. On this occasion, it was the actor Giancarlo Esposito – popularly known for his roles in ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’, as Gus Fring, and in ‘The Mandalorian’, as Moff Gideon – who has shared some details about his participation in the next Ubisoft title, ‘Far Cry 6’.
Let’s remember that Esposito will be the protagonist of ‘Far Cry 6’, a game in which he will play the dictator Anton Castillo, a role he built based on Fidel Castro and Hitler. This was explained during the Summer Game Fest 2021, in a conversation with Geoff Knighley, the host of the event.
¿Any resemblance to reality is pure coincidence?
A little less than a year ago, we talked about a leak that confirmed Esposito’s participation in the new title of ‘Far Cry 6’ as the dictator of a city called Yara who will rule since he came to power as a guerrilla after overthrowing the government. If that story sounds familiar to you, it is because it really existed. And it is that Esposito confirmed that Yara was inspired by Cuba as a country in which an iron dictatorship is developing.
It could not be otherwise that the main inspiration to develop the character of the guerrilla dictator of an island was Fidel Castro, as Esposito confessed, in addition to commenting that he also took elements of Adolf Hitler to build the personality of Anton Castillo.
But Castro and Hitler were not the only inspiration for Esposito to develop Anton Castillo. The Danish-American actor mentioned that Romania’s dictator, Nicolás Ceaucescu, was also part of the historical figures on which he based his character.
There is no doubt that Esposito was born to play Machiavellian roles and that Anton Castillo will be no different from characters like Gus Fring in ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’, as well as Moff Gideon from ‘The Mandalorian’, a character who by the way, it has been his favorite so far.
