This past weekend saw a new twist on the Blizzard Affair, with Overwatch in the spotlight.
The company’s original shooter receives its first side effects after the lawsuit made by the state of California and the numerous sources confirming its content, when the lack of progress in its work team was revealed.
For those who may be interested at this point, Overwatch is stuck in a development vacuum, having not had important news for some time and having nothing prepared for the future.
The popular belief is that the team is focused on the development of Overwatch 2, with the desire to transform the franchise with a new face. But a new leak suggests that this is not the case.
According to streamer Metro revealed on his Twitter account that the development of Overwatch 2 has been delayed to the point that its tentative release date is located in 2023 at the moment. This breaks with the expectations of the fans and exposes the future of this franchise.
With a year and a half to wait for a new title, fans (who remain) would have an increasingly stagnant game in the middle of a market that does not stop at offering shooters. All of that not counting the ramifications of the Blizzard Affair in Overwatch.
The ramifications of the Blizzard case in Overwatch
This same weekend, the first serious impacts outside the World of Warcraft environment were announced, with the departure of the heaviest advertisers from the Overwatch League.
Coca Cola, State Farm, Verizon and Kellogg’s, among others, announced their exit from the sponsorship of Activision Blizzard Esports events, due to revelations of their internal culture and popular rejection. Assuming this a very strong blow for the future of this competition.
In a similar way it would happen with the Call of Duty League, so the ActiBlizz leadership decided to present its events without advertisers until a resolution was reached. A coup that we hope will continue to grow, until justice reaches the victims of this case.
