Hi PlayStation friends, Simon from the Roll7 team. It’s great to be back to talk about our new game OlliOlli World. Some of you may remember us when we launched OlliOlli and OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood on PS Vita, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. It was amazing how well our games were received, and, no. not lie, it was not. It’s not wrong to win a few prizes along the way.
Although we have released other games, we always wanted to go back to our roots with another OlliOlli. The one that really nails that feeling of creating a perfect line of seemingly endless stuff as the lofi tracks pound in the background creating a harmony of euphoria and endorphins. We knew if we were to make a new OlliOlli it would have to be bigger, better and stronger, uh I mean brighter than before. We’ve been secretly working on OlliOlli World for years now, and it’s so great to finally be able to show it.
Quick recap for everyone: OlliOlli World is an action platform game in which you beat tricks with the two sticks through a weird and fanciful world trying to reach high scores, unlock various customization options, meet weird and peculiar friends, and ultimately seek out the skate gods of Gnarvana. You’ll need coordination, timing, and practice to create monster combos. Skateboarding can be tricky and while we didn’t want to shy away from it, we wanted to make sure it’s accessible and you are comfortable navigating. There’s that exhilarating feeling that comes when you stick a hardflip on a particularly massive staircase and we want everyone to enjoy it. We hope you will feel the same feeling in OlliOlli World; the only difference is that these stairs could be above a gushing rainbow river that is home to a colossal squid. Because of course it’s …
If you’re a fan of our previous games, one of the first things you’ll notice is the big change in art. We loved the retro-pixel feel of our previous titles, but we knew that with OlliOlli World, we wanted to pursue a bolder, more lively and lively style. The world is a little offbeat, and we wanted to take the game in a new visual direction that really allowed us to show it off while also emphasizing that this is not a sequel, but a whole new game. A major inspiration has been to tap into the culture of skateboarding, street art and all the unique crossroads that develop around skating. There is a fascinating intersection of psychedelic elements and trippy influences in these communities. We wanted to create a world in which that essence embodies and shares, while still feeling determined despite all of its quirk. You’ll see Ice Cream Walk, Business Frogs, Milkshake Pools, Grizzly Bears, and other bizarre inhabitants. The locations have real-world influences, but then we injected a heavy dose of quirky humor that we hope will get a laugh.
Another great addition to OlliOlli World is the ability to take several different paths through the levels. We wanted to offer a new level of freedom to explore this strange and wonderful world, so that now some paths will branch off in separate directions. This means that you will be able to travel different paths to discover new side quests and more epic cheat opportunities, really adding both variety and replayability to the game. There are hidden ramps, jumps. sneaky, quarter pipes, and other places you can just take a moment to sculpt while you boost your score or practice your moves. We wanted to emulate that feeling of finding a secret skate spot and figuring out what’s the best trick to land there.
One of the main features requested in previous games was the ability to customize your character, and we’re excited to see what you’ll come up with in OlliOlli World. We’ve designed a ton of customization options – you can wear a bunch of wild gear and accessories, choose from different skateboards, and even change up your physical appearance. During your journey, you will face nasty challenges that can earn you that sweet, sweet loot. You can also change your characters’ tips and gain new moves. Are you more of a method guy? We got you. Do you like 360 flips over varial heelflips? Do it. We’ve always wanted our game to show how you can really express yourself both visually and how you skate.
OlliOlli World will feature a full single player campaign with multiple locations, tons of levels, side quests, challenges and more. Then, after going through Radland, there are still a lot of points to master as OlliOlli World offers the ability to create and share procedurally generated levels in sandbox mode. We’re also on the top rankings, and if you’re truly one of the baddest skaters in the country, check out Leagues, a global competition to decide who’s the baddest of them all.
We’re hoping that with this whole new world we’ve built, a ridiculous new art style, creating branching paths and hidden places to skate, all new mechanics to combine and master along with other new features, to really make this next iteration of the series even more special. . Be sure to take a trip with us this winter when OlliOlli World launches on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
