With version 2.4 of Genshin Impact released on Tuesday, kicking off the massively popular RPG’s first update of 2022, miHoYo has been slowly revealing more information about the newest character to join the game’s roster, Shenhe. Shenhe’s first trailer revealed the game’s newest character as a disciple of Liyue’s adept, Cloud Retainer, and painted a bleak picture of his past. Now, the latest trailer for Shenhe not only showcases her gameplay and abilities, but also her story and character alongside another character that previously existed in the world of Teyvat.
Genshin Impact’s character reveals are often one of the most anticipated parts of the start of a new update to the hit RPG. Developer miHoYo usually releases a full set of stylized trailers leading to the release of each of their new characters with different videos featuring their story and gameplay. Shenhe’s most recent trailer demonstrates many of her combat skills and also establishes her relationship with another Liyue character in Chongyun.
The most recent trailer, titled “Shenhe: Frosty Feather Shaking,” shows Shenhe saving Chongyun from a surprise attack while pursuing an Abyss Wizard through the mountainous regions of Liyue. The game trailer showcases his stylish attack animations along with his heavy use of a Cryo avatar for many of his abilities. Shenhe will be a support-focused character with abilities that will enhance her and her allies’ normal attacks and deal Cryo damage, making her a good match with some of the game’s popular Cryo DPS characters like Ayaka and Eula.
Chongyun also appears prominently in the trailer with the interaction between the two near the end of the video and also provides context between the connection between the two. In the trailer’s conclusion, Chongyun recognizes Shenhe as a fellow exorcist and refers to her near the end of the trailer as her “aunt,” implying that the two characters are related. Shenhe’s voice line “purge the mind, save the world” during the trailer also bears a striking similarity to one of Chongyun’s voice lines already on Genshin Impact.
Shenhe won’t be the only new character joining Genshin Impact with the release of the game’s 2.4 update, as it has been confirmed that he will be coming to the game alongside another character, opera singer Liyue Yun Jin. Yun Jin was officially revealed through a teaser during the 2021 Game Awards in December, and it was recently confirmed that he would be co-starring in Shenhe’s banner. With update 2.4 also adding the Enkanomiya region and developer miHoYo seemingly confirming the long-awaited Yae Miko for update 2.5, Genshin Impact fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks.
Genshin Impact is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. The Switch version is currently in development.
