Genshin Impact developer miHoYo today released a new behind-the-scenes video on creating the first major map addition to the popular free video game, Dragonspine from version 1.2. The video covers everything from how the environment was built to how the light sources changed in the new snowy weather and more. It offers a fascinating look at what helped create the entire Dragonspine experience and atmosphere.
If you’re somehow unfamiliar, Dragonspine is an extremely cold area added in Version 1.2 that introduced a new heat mechanic, as well as several different missions involving the mountain at its center and the mysteries surrounding it. There are tons of nooks and crannies to explore, and it’s really just a microcosm of what makes the rest of Genshin Impact’s Teyvat tick: a beautifully rendered environment full of wonder, wonder, and undiscovered treasures.
The behind-the-scenes video, which you can watch above, doesn’t go as deep into the technical details as it expresses how the various developers played with the Dragonspine themed elements. For example, he points out that the snow in the area is based not exactly on snow, but on clouds, which gives the entire landscape a watercolor glow.
Genshin Impact is currently available, free of charge, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and mobile devices. The version 1.2 update “The Chalk Prince and the Dragon” was recently released and added a completely new area, characters, events and more. The video game will also finally be released for Nintendo Switch.
