The classics take over your screen. Distributor GKIDS revealed that the classic ‘Mirai Shounen Conan’ (‘Future Boy Conan’) will arrive in the United States in fall 2021.
The anime directed by Hayao Miyazaki for the Nippon Animation studio will touch the West for the first time legally, with its 26 episodes dubbed into English.
The announcement was published this Thursday through the GKIDS Films official Twitter account, stating this edition is a restoration to 4K, which will give you a clear glimpse of Conan’s adventures.
“GKIDS is proud to announce the acquisition of the North American rights to FUTURE BOY CONAN, the debut series from the legendary Hayao Miyazaki! ✨
#FutureBoyConan arrives in late 2021 for the first time in North America with an all-new 4K restoration and English dub. 💫 “
For its part, ‘Mirai Shounen Conan’ began its broadcast in the spring season of 1978 and its story is based on the novel ‘The Incredible Tide’ by Alexander Key.
This was Miyazaki’s first job as a director, so it is considered a cult work that demonstrated all the potential that the Toho Animation team had seen in their internships.
A little more of Mirai Shounen Conan
Conan was the only son born on Remnant Island, a place populated by a group of refugees as they fled a terrifying wave of magnetic bombs that wiped out most of humanity. After 20 years, most of the castaways have died, save for Conan and the wise old man who raised him.
Believing that Remnant Island is the last inhabited place on Earth, Conan is shocked when he discovers that a young woman named Lana is going to the beach one day. Though delighted to learn that humanity has survived, Lana tells him that the nation of Industria wants her hostage to force her grandfather, Dr. Lao, to power their machinery. Their conversation is interrupted when Industry’s main pilot, Monsley, suddenly appears and seizes Lana. Determined to save her, Conan immediately leaves Remnant Island and begins a journey that will ultimately determine the fate of the world.
