Volkswagen ID.R ’19
The prototype electric vehicle that rewrote speed records around the world.
The body of the ID.R is carbon fiber with oversized fenders placed front and rear to produce maximum downforce. At 5.2m long, the car is relatively bulky but actually weighs less than 1,100kg. The twin-motor 4WD system produces a maximum of 500 kW (670 BHP) / 650 Nm (66.3 kgfm), enabling a 0-62.1 mph acceleration time of just 2.25 sec. These performance stats put it on par with racing cars using internal combustion engines. In the real world, the ID.R has competed in numerous motorsport events around the world with record-breaking results. At the 2018 Pikes Peak Hill Climb, rider Romain Dumas set a record of 7m57s, the first race to break the 8-minute mark. Also at the Nürburgring Nordschliefe, the ID.R set the record for the fastest lap by an EV at 6m5s. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the car became the first to complete the legendary hill climb in less than 40 seconds with a record 39.9 seconds.

The S14 is 1730mm wider than the S13 and the track width has also been increased to match. The new model is also 30mm longer at 4500mm and 5mm taller at 1295mm for an overall taller body. The engine is a retuned version of the SR20 series of the S13. The highest quality K model features an intercooled turbocharger and produces 14 BHP more than the previous generation at 216 BHP/28 kgfm with the naturally aspirated Q and J models producing 157 BHP/19.2 kgfm . The basic suspension structure was also carried over from the S13 using front struts with a multi-link system in the rear.
