A John Woo-inspired action title is heading to Nintendo Switch. The Hong Kong Massacre is a top-down shooter that first released on PC and PS4 in early 2019, nearly two years ago. But now the title will hit Nintendo’s hybrid console the day after Christmas.
The Hong Kong Massacre is an independently developed game that was created and published by Vreski when it was released in 2019. However, for the Switch title, independent publisher Untold Tales handles the publication, making it the second game handled by the newly formed studio. Prior to this, Untold Tales previously handled another indie title known as Beautiful Desolation.
The Hong Kong Massacre is specifically inspired by classic action movies and John Woo, a Hong Kong director famous for his action movies. Although John Woo collaborated to create Stranglehold in 2007, many wish that Woo would create more titles or at least get their style. The Home Kong Massacre answers that call in many ways, as players are tasked with taking down rooms of enemies with stylistic twists, slides, and more. The action thriller is violent, high-octane, and challenging; it also plays similar to Hotline Miami.
Many have expected a sequel to John Woo’s Stranglehold, but The Hong Kong Massacre looks like a good standalone title instead, as it plays like a classic action thriller. In addition to the game launching on December 26, 2020, Untold Takes and Professor Kliq have teamed up to make the game’s official soundtrack available as a free download for fans. All interested players simply need to join the Untold Tales newsletter.
The Hong Kong Massacre is available now for PC and PS4 and will arrive on Nintendo Switch on December 26, 2020.
