It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since the launch of Horizon Forbidden West. On February 18, 2022, the Guerrillas waited impatiently at their workstations as the game began to roll out to our global community.
Describing the feeling of a game launch day is difficult, although any developer in our industry inherently understands the mixture of excitement, nervousness and anticipation when we start to see your reactions coming in. We spend most of the day brushing up on social media, checking stats, and reading early feedback – while of course sharing a moment with the team, savoring the incredible achievements and results of more four years of work, now available worldwide.
To capitalize on this excitement, Horizon Forbidden West is also joining the PlayStation Plus games catalog from February 21, 2023.
Last year we saw more than the launch of Horizon Forbidden West; we also released a LEGO Tallneck into the wild, created a dedicated space TikTok Channeland released a lot of new products, like the Vinyl OST and a collection with ASOS. We even finally got to meet some of our fans in person at Twitchcon and gamescom!
It’s heartwarming to see the impact Aloy and her story have had on you, and we’re so grateful for the way our community expresses the love and joy for our franchise. One of my personal joys is scrolling through the hashtag #BeyondTheHorizon and seeing the jaw-dropping photos in the virtual photography community photo mode; Did you know you’ve all spent a collective 211,000 hours in photo mode?
As a thank you for a year of passion, support and excitement about Horizon Forbidden West, we want to give you a little token of appreciation in the form of new PlayStation avatars, which will be available for download on the PlayStation store tomorrow.
Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for embracing Aloy and her story continues in Horizon Forbidden West. We now look forward to our Burning Shores expansion, coming to PS5 on April 19, which will see Aloy pursue a sinister menace in the deadly volcanic ruins of Los Angeles. And if you want to experience the world of Horizon from a completely different perspective, Horizon Call of the Mountain launches next week on PSVR2.
I leave you with this sincere message of Guerrillas in our studio in Amsterdam.
