With the PlayStation 5 DualSense Wireless Controller, Motive is able to immerse gamers deeper into Isaac’s exciting journey aboard the USG Ishimura. Through various events such as weapon fire, asteroids impacting the ship, and necromorph attacks, haptic feedback allows players to feel the impact like Isaac would.
Our goal with the weapons was to give each a unique feel and feel to make the Necromorph battle experience even more engaging. Read on for some immersive examples of DualSense controller gameplay:
plasma cutter
You steady your plasma cutter and aim for the legs of a rushing Slasher. You place your finger on the DualSense controller’s trigger and push it past the threshold required to fire the weapon, feeling the weapon’s vibration soon after. The DualSense controller’s trigger then pushes back up, resetting for your next shot.
The same type of trigger effect is found on the flamethrower, but with a slight difference as you can feel a faint vibration on the trigger as the ejected gas turns into flame.
pulse rifle
A Swollen begins to stalk towards you as you pull out your Pulse Rifle. To survive, you give it your all, draining your leftover bullets to defeat the approaching threat. As you hold down the DualSense trigger, you’ll feel it recoil with each bullet fired from the rifle.
Haptics of movement and ability
Upon entering certain weightless areas, the player can activate Isaac’s magnetic boots. Using haptic vibrations on the controller, the player will feel the impact of each step as the mag boots engage with the ground.
When players use Isaac’s Kinesis and Stasis modules, they will get similar real-time feedback through the controller through rich haptic vibrations.
Controller speakers
To increase immersion, players receive valuable gameplay feedback through the controller’s speakers. Throughout the player’s journey, as they perform certain actions such as picking up items, refilling their stasis energy, and using their locator, they will hear these effects of Isaac’s RIG via audio.
You can dive into this iconic story yourself and experience the DualSense controller’s immersive haptics and adaptive trigger effects when Dead Space releases January 27 on PlayStation 5.
