Immortals: Fenyx Rising – A New God: The 24 Trials of Fenyx
‘Immortals: Fenyx Rising‘, the new Ubisoft Quebec franchise, has just released the first of three additional content that its expansion pass will offer. This first DLC receives the title of ‘A new god‘and we return to it to play the part of Fenyx based on the events already passed in the main video game. Despite this, in this new adventure we are not keeping much of the arsenal of weapons and items collected in the first game, and in fact we have separate save slots from the main game.
In ‘A New God’ Fenyx arrives at Olympus with the aim of becoming one of the gods of the Pantheon. For the first time, our protagonist meets his father Zeus, with whom he will have conversations halfway between brotherly affection and veneration. Aphrodite, Ares, Hephaestus and Athena offer Fenyx a series of tests to enter the pantheon. If he passes them all, Fenyx will gain the essence of each of them and they will ask Zeus to let him into Olympus … we will have to put our efforts into it.
What does this DLC offer?
Features of ‘Immortals: Fenyx Rising – A New God’ 24 independent tests, similar to the Tartar Chambers of the main adventure. Most of the time we will have to solve puzzles of some complexity, although there are also moments of action or even the occasional “arcade mini-game” with a nod to the classic ‘Donkey Kong ‘included. In each phase in addition to reaching the end, we also have a chest hidden in the level, which we must open to get the various mythical items.
Unlike the first adventure, in ‘A New God’ the puzzles are very complicatedThey are almost like the “dungeons” in another series of video games. This shift to difficult is appreciated by those of us who have noticed something simple besides the Tartarus cameras from the main adventure. There is also a certain variety of situations, some cameras are overcome with the ability to fly, for others it will be necessary to move blocks, rocks or even teleport.
The puzzles are very complicated, they almost look like “dungeons”.
In addition to the 24 trials of the 4 gods, there are also a few extras, which we are not going to empty. The duration of this first DLC is around 3 p.m., but to a l arge extent it depends on how quickly we solve certain puzzles or pass certain skill tests, as it may take some players 5 hours longer and others 5 hours shorter.
What are the differences with the main adventure?
In ‘Immortals: Fenyx Rising – A New God’, we start from the same playable base as our first adventure. Virtually the same abilities and weapon types are maintained, although there are other changes, such as the introduction of the double air jump, the elimination of healing items as well as the integration of new skills that we will realize as we move forward.
Despite its similar gameplay, there is a lot that changes. Most notable is the lack of an open world like the one Isla Áurea gave us. Virtually in this DLC there is no exploration; There aren’t many collectibles and the ones that do exist are very distinctive: one per phase and nothing else. There aren’t many enemies either and almost no epic battles against large creatures. This first DLC focuses exclusively on puzzles, it must also be said that they have a magnificent design.
This first DLC is all about puzzles, which have a beautiful design.
As for the main characters, they all retain their character. In other words, itthe gods keep their sense of humor while Fenyx is still the same innocent angel. It must be said that in this DLC, only 6 characters are involved, in part because of the previous events.
For its part, the soundtrack reuse melodies already composed for the original ‘Immortals: Fenyx Rising’ as well as a new use of multiple structures, textures, objects … something more than logical in a DLC.
Verdict: Is A New God Worth It?
Without a doubt, for this first paid additional content, Ubisoft has more than delivered. ‘Immortals: Fenyx Rising – A New God’ is more and better, a DLC with exquisite playability for more than ten hours of pleasure. If after playing the original adventure you wanted more, and especially more puzzles, this content is for you.
On the other hand, it must be said that there are two more DLC on the way which are also part of the expansion pass: ‘Myths of the Eastern Kingdom“Y”Lost gods“. They are waiting for new adventures featuring different characters, as well as a more exploration oriented approach and combat, thus making up for the less worked points of this first content.
In short, we have a very good taste in the mouth and an eye on the future content. The story of Fenyx is already a legend, the next turn is for a hero named Ku on an adventure framed in Chinese mythology. We will continue to enjoy and learn classical culture with “Immortals: Fenyx Rising”.
