A new Sony ad for God of War on PS5 features a poignant father-son story, while some note that the PS5 is upside down.
In February, God of War received a PS5 update that allowed the game to be played at 4K60. That’s a good reason for anyone to return to the game, but it should also be noted that no player really needs a reason to play God of War. Many still praise it as one of the best PS4 exclusives, and the hype for its sequel remains at a fever pitch.
Either way, it’s not surprising to see that the game is still part of Sony’s marketing. On July 8, before the scheduled PlayStation State of Play, Sony released a new ad featuring God of War. Various clips of the game when a parent sees it as a story to their child, before moving rooms and grabbing a PS5 controller. At its core, the unique design of the PS5 is undeniable, but it’s backwards.
Seemingly first noticed by industry figure Nibel, the 26-second mark of the God of War video clearly shows the PS5 disc version upside down. The most obvious indicator is that the disk drive is at the top rather than the bottom, which is quite a hilarious mistake on Sony’s part. It doesn’t detract from the intensity of the ad, nor is it likely to be seen by too many people, but it’s still fun for PS5 owners.

This is partly because there are several reports of new users accidentally setting the PS5 disc version upside down. Aside from the potential damage to discs from improper insertion, it is worth mentioning that there are no widespread reports of major damage due to this, but it is not recommended yet. Many may not immediately notice if they don’t use discs frequently, and while those who only play online can opt for the discless version of the PS5, many PS5 owners are probably happy with either version of the disc. model.
After all, it’s still notoriously hard to come by, so many God of War fans may still be playing it on their PS4s. This kind of limited availability, but also in honor of those who still can’t upgrade to a PS5, is probably one of the reasons Sony recently confirmed the God of War sequel for PS4 and PS5. Of course, there is a while to play that game, but fans should be careful not to use their PS5 incorrectly when / if they update. If Sony can make that mistake, anyone can.
A God of War sequel is in development for PS4 and PS5.
