Although the title of the film ‘The Suicide Squad’ must have given us indications that there would be many deaths, we must admit that we were not prepared for everything to happen so quickly, much less in the first minutes of the film. However, reports reveal that James Gunn had a different plan for the death of one of the “protagonists.”
If anyone wonders if all those “villains” that appeared on the poster are really relevant to the plot, we honestly answer them that they are not. Most of the characters die even before the title of the film was released, leaving alive those who would be fond of.
Near the end of the film, one of the most regrettable deaths occurs. Polka Dot Man tries to stop Starro when he steps on and explodes him, with no better chance of having a future in the DCEU. Now, if that death seemed cruel to you, imagine how we felt when we found out that James Gunn’s plans were to kill Ratcatcher 2.
Although it seems quite crazy to think that two of the most beloved characters in this production are the ones with the strangest powers, if you have not seen the film you cannot criticize our opinion.
Both Polka Dot Man and Ratcatcher 2 enchanted each other throughout production, and because of that, killing either of them was a cruel outcome. But, we admit that taking down the rat tamer would be too dark, even for Gunn.
Just as in David Ayer’s film there was an emotional core on the part of Rick Flag and his relationship with Enchantress, or, between Will Smith and his daughter, and how can we forget that of Harley Quinn with the Joker, in Gunn’s production there is also formed a sentimental connection between Ratcatcher 2 and Bloodsport.
The former lost her father, played by Taika Waititi, to his drug addiction, and the latter joined Task Force X because Amanda Waller threatened to send her 16-year-old daughter to prison for just stealing a Smart watch.
The bond between this pair was formed when they were on their way to The Kind Kitten, and Bloodsport tells Ratcatcher 2 about his phobia of rats. It seems that while some of us consider rodents to be “nasty,” this film shows that they are powerful.
Bloodsport promises Ratcatcher 2 to keep her alive, and she hadn’t just connected with Idris Elba’s character. Sebastian’s friend was about to be eaten by King Shark, however, instead of taking it personally, she took it upon herself to make him her friend.
So do you understand why killing Ratcatcher 2 would be more cruel than ending Polka Dot Man, and her “mommy issues”?
Just as Harley Quinn was the downside of the first film, we believe that Ratcatcher was the one in this production. While the character of Margot Robbie gave us amazing moments in Gunn’s movie, we think they cleverly gave way to another female character who could steal attention.
Instead of killing Ratcatcher 2, Gunn preferred to make her the true hero of the plot, and together with her, the rats were in a victorious position against the fight against a giant starfish. Yeah, we can’t believe we’re saying that out loud either.
