If something characterizes Junji Ito, it is his ability to show his sense of humor to the anime fandom.
As part of the start of the virtual event Crunchyroll Expo 2021, the horror mangaka was transformed into a VTuber, being taken to an animated world to give the opening speech of the event.
Being transported from his workbench to a virtual world with the Crunchyroll animators, the author remained in black and white in a world full of color, but always with a relaxed attitude, easily getting used to the whole situation.
In a rather striking way, reference was made to the expression “Poggers”, being very funny coming from Ito, but which exposes the outdated direction of the event, since that expression has been eliminated after knowing details of how it originated.
It could not be otherwise, since the Crunchyroll Expo always comes loaded with moments full of legitimate enthusiasm and an always oversized presence of embarrassing and uncomfortable moments.
Meanwhile, Ito fans are looking forward to Uzumaki in 2022.
What we know about Uzumaki
The manga illustrated by Junji ito, tells a terrifying story in a small town in Japan called Korozu-cho which faces the fearsome presence of something inexplicable. Supernatural events start to happen and the common factor between them is a spiral that everyone sees just before they happen.
The people of the town, obsessed and paranoid with the spiral will begin to see it everywhere, causing accidents and misfortunes that they will not know whether to attribute to a curse or mass hysteria.
Hiroshi Nagahama and screenwriter Aki Itami are in charge of the anime at Production IG studio, with the creative backing of Ito. Additionally, its cast of voice actors was unveiled in mid-2020.
