One of the longest-lived sagas in the history of the JRPG, Legend of Mana, is about to turn 30 years old.
The work that emerged in 1991 for the Game Boy by Square Enix (the former Squaresoft) began as a spinoff of Final Fantasy, but this was quickly discarded once the story grew.
Developing solidly in the Super Famicom and later in the first PlayStation, this saga was anchored in Japan for a long time, only making few leaps to the West. In this way it became a cult piece for a long time, which could only be known thanks to the internet.
But now we live in different times, marked by the recent announcement of new productions of this series, for consoles, mobiles and the world of anime.
Legend of Mana: The Teardrop Crystal is the title of the future animated series, with the production of Warner Bros. Japan, with the animation of Graphinica with the support of Yokohama Animation Lab.
Masaru Oyamada, head of the franchise for Square Enix, expressed that this work was the source of inspiration for the recent remake of The Legend of Mana, counting on the support of Warner Bros. Japan as an influential factor in the decision to create the anime and the new game.
The story of The Legend of Mana is described as follows:
Nine centuries ago, the manna tree burned to ashes. The power of mana lived within mana stones, enchanted instruments, and artifacts. Many sages have fought each other to seize control of these last remnants of Mana. Then, after hundreds of years of warfare, as the power of Mana began to fade, those who sought it began to disappear, and the world lived in peace again. After this, the fear of desire grew in humanity. Their hearts were filled with empty emotions, and they pulled away from my hands. They averted their eyes from my infinite power, and were afflicted by their foolish disputes. Remember me! Need me! I can provide you with everything! I am love. Find me and walk by my side.
The world has fallen into ruin, the sacred tree has died, and the sword of Mana is lost. Only a hero will be able to revive the tree and bring peace to this world again and you must guide him so that his destiny is fulfilled.
