Hi everyone, this is Keisuke Kikuchi, the producer of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. Alongside series director Mr. Shibata, I have been involved in every title in the Fatal Frame series, and thanks to all of our fans and their support, we are now celebrating the 20e anniversary of the franchise.
As the series condenses the essence of Japanese horror in each title, we have chosen a different type of fear as the overall theme for each game. For the upcoming Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, we are using the “places” motif. haunted ”Japanese and the player’s ability to pick up their camera and go through those stages. The main theme of this particular entry in the series is “water fear”. To do this, we made sure that many locations were very humid to make them feel like a ghost could appear at any time, a very common theme in Japanese horror.
One of the main features that I would like to discuss with all of our fans today is the new photo mode, a first for the series. Now you can create your own ‘ghost photograph’ and post it on social media so others can see how interesting and scary the series is. While other games have implemented a photo mode, the Fatal Frame series emphasizes cameras and images as the most important parts of the game (even using the camera, called camera obscura, as a weapon to defeat ghosts!), so the things you can do in this mode are a bit different compared to other series.
And since the main concept of this new mode is to allow players to create their own original ‘ghost photography’, we’ve made sure to include filters and other features to provide a number of different options for customizing their game. job. Players can use photo mode with the press of a button at almost any part of the game, except for a few special events.
After entering photo mode, you can place any ghosts or characters that you have met or encountered so far in the picture, and change their position and the way they face each other. After that, you can adjust the poses of the characters and decide on the composition of your image.
You can then use different lenses to add ghost-like effects and increase contrast and other options to change the qualities of your ghost photography. Plus, by getting the ‘psychic lens’ you can expect ghosts to appear in your photo when you least expect them. At a certain time and by going to a certain place, particular ghosts can also appear in your photos!
Once your photo appears the way you like it, you can choose a frame for your photo, decorate it, adjust the depth of field, focal length and aperture to increase the quality of your photo, then just use the photo functions in the platform you are using to save the photo.
After testing out the photo mode, I recommend two methods for making your own ghost photograph: one is to create a compelling image that looks like it could be real, and the other is to create a really funny photo. for you and your friends are laughing.
There is a lot of value in creating a situation that you yourself find incredibly scary and then pushing it to its maximum. Creating an image of the characters surrounded by ghosts as if they were blessed by them, or changing the character you are talking to with a ghost during a really serious scene can create unexpected situations that can make you laugh out loud.
This is what I really like about photo mode. The Fatal Frame series storylines always progress with a very serious tone, but the photo mode allows you to create some really fun scenes, which has made it one of my favorite parts of the game.
As I look forward to all of your in-game videos, I feel like the real charm of this series is to experience fear for yourself by discovering the world and creating your own photograph. of ghosts. I can’t wait to see what people create and see all the photos everyone is putting together after Maiden of Black Water releases on October 28th. The fear is real, but don’t forget to take a moment or two to soak up the scene and snap some photos. You never know where the next ghost will appear!
