As we all enter 2023 with high hopes for what lies ahead, Nippon Ichi Software would like to invite you to celebrate its 30th anniversary with some exciting news! This milestone means a lot to us, and with it, we’re thrilled to announce Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless and Rhapsody: Marl Kingdom Chronicles, both coming to PlayStation consoles this year!
While Nippon Ichi Software has released an extensive and acclaimed catalog of role-playing games over the past 30 years, perhaps none are as iconic as Disgaea. With the release of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness on PS2 in 2003, the series also celebrated its 20th anniversary, alongside NIS America and Disgaea’s own dood, Prinny! With all that in mind, it seems only fitting that Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is releasing in the fall later this year, bringing with it a deliciously evil cast of characters and several new features that make it the most big release in the series so far.
2023 also marks Rhapsody’s 25th anniversary! Since the release of Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure on PlayStation® in 1998, this series has been known for its charming characters and whimsical music. With Rhapsody: Marl Kingdom Chronicles, we couldn’t be happier to continue the story by bringing both Rhapsody II: Ballad of the Little Princess and Rhapsody III: Memories of Marl Kingdom to the West for the first time.
Thank you to all of you who have supported Nippon Ichi Software over the past 30 years! We hope you’re looking forward to these new titles as much as we are, and we’re excited to share a few details about them with you.
Disgaea 7: Vows of the Without Virtues
The demon realm of Hinomoto is changing, and the days of the noble warriors are numbered. Bushido, the moral code of the values, ethics, and way of life practiced by the locals, has been replaced by the Hinomoto Code of Destruction. Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless tells the story of lazy warrior Fuji and bushido fangirl Pirilika, as they find unlikely allies in each other in their fight against a tyrannical regime while discovering the true sense of honor and redemption.
Released on PS4 and PS5, this title brings several new and familiar features.
Character classes: Disgaea 7 features over 40 character classes, including four new additions: Maiko, Bandit, Zombie Maiden, and Big Eye.
Auto Battle: Back in Disgaea 7, once you complete a level, you can replay it by engaging with enemies in auto-battles. This can help you gain additional experience while saving time in your game.
Online Ranked Battles: A first in the series, AI-driven Ranked Battles let you compete against other players online. The system creates optimal strategies based on the movements of your opponents and the characteristics of the scene. Stacking wins will lead to a ranking boost, while losing will hurt your position.
Object Reincarnation: Similar to the character reincarnation mechanic from previous Disgaea games, which also returns, you can now reincarnate objects, turning them into something completely different. The more you do this, the more powerful the item becomes!
Hell mode: Some characters have a “Hell Gauge” which fills up during battle. Once it’s maxed out, they go into “Hell Mode”, which boosts their stats and unlocks unique skills.
Sightseeing: Once you have brought peace to an area of Hinomoto, you can stop for a visit. Get to know the people of Hinomoto as they return to their normal lives, complete with bonus dialogue and opportunities to recruit new companions (after beating them in battle, of course).
Jumbify: Every character in Disgaea 7 can oversize, increasing in both size and strength, which increases their stats and damage output. Be careful though, because the enemies can also do the same!
Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless will be released for PS4 and PS5 in Fall 2023. Text options include English and French, with English and Japanese voice options.
Rhapsody: Chronicles of the Kingdom of Marl
Discover the story of Cornet, Ferdinand and their family in Rhapsody: Marl Kingdom Chronicles on PS5. This two-game collection marks the Western debut of Rhapsody II: Ballad of the Little Princess and Rhapsody III: Memories of Marl Kingdom. These titles share the same storybook charm and whimsical music of the original, along with enhanced visuals and improved mechanics.
Following in the footsteps of her mother Cornet, young Kururu embarks on a journey to find her own prince in Rhapsody II: Ballad of the Little Princess.
This title introduces a turn-based combat system that differs from the first game, as well as more songs and characters than ever before.
In Rhapsody III: Memories of Marl Kingdom, a series of charming chapters conclude the stories of Rhapsody and its characters. Experience events that happen before, during, and after previous titles, including a moving and heartfelt conclusion about Cornet’s mother, Cherie.
This title also comes with a new combat system that differs from its predecessors, with combo character attacks and the addition of a 3D camera.
Rhapsody: Marl Kingdom Chronicles will be released for PS5 in Summer 2023. Voice options include English and Japanese dubbing, with songs remaining in Japanese only.
