It’s a big day for Spidey fans! We’re thrilled to finally show you the first-ever gameplay of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the next installment in our original Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, launching in Fall 2023. There’s a lot to discover about the gameplay reveal today, so let’s highlight some of the great things…
The great hunt begins
As many pointy-eared Spidey fans noticed in our 2021 trailer for Kraven the Hunter. This version makes his first appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and he is looking for an equal. That’s bad news for Marvel’s New Yorkers, including an array of villains and the Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Between the start of Kraven’s Great Hunt and an all-new Symbiote threat on Earth-1048, our heroes have their work cut out for them.
Setting the stage for our gameplay reveal: Kraven Hunters, a new enemy faction, are in pursuit of Dr. Curt Connors, aka The Lizard, and Peter must stop him. We’re kicking off Connors’ home across the East River in Queens, one of the all-new playable and explorable neighborhoods we’re introducing to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Let’s be symbiotic
We’re wasting no time: Peter Parker, our original Spider-Man in this story, who needs no introduction, bursts through the basement doors. But what he’s wearing might deserve one: he dons the coveted, iconic, and beloved black suit and he’s more than ready for battle.
Along with serving up looks, our Symbiote-bound hero has some new tricks up his sleeve. We’re no stranger to head-punching Spider-Man, but never like this: he’s a lot more aggressive and punches certainly don’t get fired. Symbiote tendrils enlarge Spider-Man’s silhouette, slamming enemies against hard surfaces, granting Kraven hunters no mercy.
My advice: make yourself comfortable with the L1 button because you will love it.
The super-popular costume can scare almost anyone who encounters it, but Kraven isn’t just anyone, and his highly skilled hunters aren’t afraid of a fight. Don’t worry ! New combat abilities can neutralize our stubborn new adversaries with a little finesse. Hit with aggressive parries to get the upper hand, or throw a web to move enemies between a hard spot and a tougher spot. You can also activate a classic dodge to get out of danger – but don’t get too comfortable; some attacks cannot simply be dodged and will require a parry to dodge them properly!
Our animators set to work to deliver a much more impulsive Peter Parker, worthy of the symbiote bonded to his person, without sacrificing his combative finesse. New takedowns humble even the toughest foes, and new combat animations push the limits of Spider-Man. I mean, did you see what Spider-Man did to that guy?
In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we respect the black suit and give it the story it deserves. In this episode, we really take a look at Peter’s personal relationship with the Symbiote and how it affects his loved ones…
More miles per hour
Speaking of which, this sequel features not one but TWO playable Spider-Heroes, as Miles Morales returns in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and is a key player in our story. In this demo, Miles is in Harlem on Lizard’s tail. Speed is essential in many ways.
First, take a look at the near-instantaneous switching between our two playable Spider-Men. And as if that weren’t enough, traversal gets a significant speed boost in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2! Cue the Web Wings, which can be deployed by either Spider-Man to move quickly and urgently around the city. Use wind tunnels between horizons to move quickly, and experience the capabilities of the PS5 console’s SSD as you fly over the concrete jungle, passing all sorts of cars, buildings, and people (and pigeons). If you thought the traversal in our first two games was exhilarating, wait until you’ve experienced it first-hand in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Bring down the warehouse
After a brief flight through town, Miles followed Connors inside the Harlem Fish Market. At first glance, Kraven Hunters are going after him, so it’s time to take them down.
In the style of Marvel’s Spider-Man, players can approach encounters with stealth or furious fists, or both. Whichever approach you take, there are new gadgets and abilities that complement different playstyles. One of the new gadgets we’re excited about is the Webline, a new way to weave through the environment to get the upper hand on enemies. enemies. Cast a line at two fighters and watch Spider-Man perform a double takedown…a Marvel’s Spider-Man first!
Like his mentor before him, Miles Morales also has new abilities and gadgets at his disposal. On the gadget front, we introduced the Web Grabber, a new gadget that rounds up enemies in an isolated location. This allows Miles to chain together one of his new abilities, the Thunder Burst, unleashing an electrifying mace against a group of enemies. You also saw a glimpse of the Chain Lightning ability, which has a shocking radius of effect on all nearby enemies.
Between Peter’s new Symbiote abilities and Miles’ new blue bioelectric powers, each Spider-Man has their own unique set of skills that can be leveled up via an all-new individual skill tree. Our heroes share technology and also train together, which is why we’ve also included a shared skill tree that features parallel upgrades for both.
The lizard is in the details
As Miles follows Lizard through the fish market, our environments are sure to activate your Spidey senses: our world is richer, denser, and full of detail from particles to enhanced textures. Lighting is also improved, casting more dramatic shadows and reflections along walls and pipes; while spatial 3D audio creates unique soundscapes all around you. Additionally, we’re increasing immersion in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 with our signature use of the DualSense wireless controller, including a range of haptics and dramatic use of adaptive triggers.
Whether you’re sneaking through interiors or exploring the streets of our city, Marvel’s New York comes to life in a way only possible on the PlayStation 5 console.
Be bigger together
Working together, the Spider-Men must pursue Lizard and battle the hunters seeking his capture. Unfortunately for them, Kraven is well equipped: ships, air transport and weapons are riveted on Lizard. The Great Hunt continues along the East River, one of the new areas you can traverse in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and the action is close: Miles dismantles vehicles in its wake as Peter Parker leads the hunt from afar.
You’ll switch seamlessly between the two Spider-Men through a variety of story moments in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. We want players to bask in iconic teams elevated by our signature gameplay moments, and experience the story from everyone’s perspective Spider-Man.

No combination of words can fully express how thrilled we are to finally show you Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 after all this time. We’re thrilled to give you this very first glimpse of what we’ve been working on all these years, and we hope you’re as thrilled as we are.
We know you’ve been patiently waiting for more information on the game, including when you’ll be playing it at home.
