New Companions update for No Man’s Sky

For players who have once felt lonely exploring the planets of No Man’s Sky on their own, developer Hello Games has given everyone a way to ensure they always have a friend by their side thanks to the No Man’s Sky update: Companions. The latest content release now available has added the ability to befriend pets, raise eggs to continue the bloodlines of their adopted companions, and even give players the opportunity to create “never-before-seen creatures.”

Adopting the pets and having them walk alongside you as you explore different planets is the foundation of the update, but there’s so much more to it than that. A highlight reel of the No Man’s Sky: Companions update shared by game creator Sean Murray provides an overview of some of the actions made possible by the latest release.

As explained in the update post found on the PlayStation Blog, players will be able to tame different creatures from across the universe after installing the update. Those creatures can be raised and summoned to different locations to ensure you always have someone with you on your travels.

While they can explore alongside you, players will also be able to interact with them in unique ways, just as you would with a normal, non-alien pet. You can play with peers and see them react to things differently based on their personalities and you can even get rough translations of what they are saying via an Exosuit update. Pets can even help you in unique situations instead of just being bystanders.

“Creatures can be trained to perform tasks such as searching for resources, marking hazards, providing torchlight, hunting hostile creatures, locating buildings, unearthing valuable treasures, or even fielding their own shoulder-mounted mining lasers,” Murray said of the update. .

When creatures lay eggs, players can hatch them until they hatch and then take care of those creatures as well. Through a process of “new gene sequencing”, players can even alter the outcome of those eggs, which can make them even more desirable to others, as they can exchange eggs with other players.

“Genetic material can also be brought to the new Egg Sequencer aboard the Space Anomaly,” Murray said. “The Egg Sequencer allows players to mix the genetic material from their growing eggs to produce unique and never-before-seen creatures.”

No Man’s Sky: Companions will be available on all platforms on Wednesday.
