Following the sale of Klei to its new owners, expectations for Don’t Starve: Newhome were greatly raised.
The work of the studio now owned by Tencent Holdings, today unveiled a new preview that shows us the future of this series. With the new star character, Wilson, we can see how people from different places are transported to this plane full of horrors.
One after another, they must meet and collaborate, building objects and structures, all with the central objective of not starving themselves. Klei Entertainment teamed up with Shengqu Games, the Tencent studio dedicated to exclusively mobile creations in the West.
This as part of turning the saga completely into a presentation for the world of mobile games, trusting that this space will bring them greater success without the need to transfer this saga to the world of consoles or the PC.
Shengqu Games points out that the title will respect the guidelines of its predecessors, so we will continue with the collection and construction mechanics, trying to provide our protagonists, because now we will have several at stake, with all the necessary resources to survive for longer.
However, Shengqu has also said that it will be “a little different from the traditional Don’t Starve experience” so we will have to be attentive to the arrival of the game to know what changes have been introduced.
The dark and supernatural, yet cartoonish style of the game’s art was influenced by the work of filmmaker Tim Burton, to whom Don’t Starve has been frequently compared, and by writers Edward Gorey and HP Lovecraft.
It was essential for the development team to create something “dark and gloomy”. After conceiving the basic guidelines of the game, the antecedents influenced by genres such as steampunk and horror were developed, with artistic elements similar to a comic. But the possibility of playing it as a team from our mobiles is the central offer of Don’t Starve: Newhome.
