The team behind the ‘One Piece’ manga thanked the athletes who paid tribute to Eiichiro Oda’s work at the Olympics.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are proof that anime has reached all corners of the world, with athletes of various nationalities presenting routines inspired by their favorite series.
From gymnasts dancing to the rhythm of the main theme of ‘Kimetsu no Yaiba: Movie Mugen Ressha-hen’, to the same event injecting love for anime into Volleyball games with ‘Haikyuu’.
Of course, with a couple of days before the end of the event, the athletes could not leave without paying a tribute to ‘One Piece’, one of the most popular pieces of the last 20 years, by the long jump representatives of Greece and America’s shot put.
In the case of the gold champion, Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece, he imitated Luffy’s Gear Second pose, while the American Payton Otterdahl provided his best version of Franky’s superpose.
It is here when, through the official Twitter account of the ‘One Piece’ manga team, he published illustrations of each of the poses made by the protagonists, with a message in both Greek and English which reads:
“We sincerely celebrate the activities of our ‘NAKAMA’ around the world with the utmost respect for their efforts and achievements.”
With a great passion for anime waking up in the middle of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and a couple more days before it ends, the only question left in the air is what other surprises both the competitors and the event will provide.
And you? Would you be able to pay tribute to ‘One Piece’ in the eyes of millions of people? Tell us in the comments.
